You can take off that week in January when there's only 2 days of school!

That is too late for a break, why did they do that?

BC Emancipation Day.

I miss that too, though not for skiing reasons, just for a break up of the year reasons. But I had reason to look, recently, at school calendars in CT where I grew up - they did away with the February break statewide, I believe. They now have a week in mid April, and that's it.

Maybe the overwhelming feedback they got was to have it that week?

So is this 100 percent final? Or is there still a chance they modify it?

Looks like we will go away that week in January.

It may work out perfectly, to have the week in January as a travel week. I am starting to like the schedule.

I wish school started a week later and wish the spring break was earlier. Its a long stretch from the 3rd week of February until break. Every other month there are lots of shorter weeks. More than anything, it would be nice to have it be consistent from year to year- guess that's too much to ask.

That's what they are tying to do--align spring break with emancipation day so it's in mid-April every year. That's how it was last year and how it will be next year. This year was the exception, presumably because people complained; it was mid-April in the draft calendar for this year and changed in the final.

Sorry for the dumb question here, but I'm new to this. Do the charters observe this calendar as well, or do they all have separate calendars? (Excluding Haynes of course)

Charters each set their own calendars. Many try to follow DCPS for major breaks - in a case like this with the DCPS calendar still in flux this late in the year, I'd bet that a lot of charters are finalizing their calendars without DCPS's being final.

So this is not final?

Ah, sorry. Yes, looks like DCPS is now final. I think some charters finalized their calendars earlier this year since DCPS was taking so long.

Yup. I commented that I wanted the later break back. This year is too early. Too cold.

I'm glad most are starting on 8/22 instead of later in the summer. solves the camp question. But looks like 11 extended year schools are starting on 8/21. Will be interesting how that works out.
