So freakin sick of appointments

The appointments are overwhelming ... just the shear number of then between regular doctor and dentist for 2 kids, psych, ST, prenatal for me .... we've been needing to change psychiatrists but I've been putting it off.

I hear you. There was a time when we had more than one appointment per day. Happy to say that those days are a memory. At one point my youngest (apraxia) had 8 sessions a week between OT and speech. At the same time, my middle child was being seen for OT 1x a week, ST 1x a week and in the midst of testing and tutoring for LD. And my oldest was being seen for therapy once a week too. Add in the occasional pediatrician, ENT, neurologist, dentist, orthodontist, eye appt, etc and my life was running from appointment to appointment. And then there were consults with new specialists and IEP meetings for 3 kids sprinkled in.

Good news is it gets easier for most of us. We no longer have daily appointments. We just have 2 regular therapy appointments a week between 3 kids. Of course, there are still the run of the mill ped, dentist, orthodontist and eye appointments, but almost everyone has those. We've even graduated from IEPs to 504s. I don't regret any of those appointments. I credit the early and intensive intervention with helping my kids get to where they are today. They're happy and thriving.

Nope, the last provider is actually someone who gets a good number of favorable mentions on this board.

They *love* parents like you.

Stop scaring special needs parents.

In the words of Game of Thrones: You know nothing.

OP, this is often the way it is with special needs kids. I don't know how old your child your child is or how new the diagnosis, but hopefully after the first year (or two) you will hone down your team of trusted providers mainly to one institution. They will talk to each other, and have a team approach. There will be a clear team leader, perhaps someone you can email.

You won't have to keep reintroducing yourself, spelling, and explaining. If you don't get that, leave.

BTW, we left Children's Hospital because we felt like we were strangers at every single appointment there. I don't think it was a "scam operation" but it was hopelessly disorganized and an administrative cesspool.

We went to Children's for speech and they were terrible. They basically said we were good parents and while our kid was delayed they had far more delayed kids and wouldn't take him as we can meet his needs. I was so pissed they blew us off. We had to wait months for a new referral and evaluation to get help. We ended up private paying till we could get it all done via insurance for about a year. They really dropped the ball with our child who had significant needs.
