Any idea of the IQ of children in HGC/magnet programs?

That's interesting.
I also knew my IQ at a young age and was told I was gifted. I also have pretty significant ADD and anxiety, which has impacted my career. I did well in all the advanced/magnet/IB classes in school, however. I LOVED school!
Perhaps your situation is similar.

Oh I loved school and I love learning. It just hasn't transitioned into an awesome career. Yes I have anxiety.

22:14 here. It would never occur to me to tell my child what his IQ is.

My DC has a Verbal IQ of 146. Performance IQ is average. DC has special needs, is not good at math and has major executive function problems. So Magnets not an option.

Yes, same with me. You know what doesn't pay the bills and won't guarantee a fantastic future for your child. Many underemployed intellectuals (adjunct professors, tutors, perpetual grad students, etc.) fit this description.

Satisfy my idle curiosity please.

Do you happen to know the IQ (full score or one particular subset) of a child in the HGC or magnet programs?
I know most parents do not know the IQ scores of their children, but some private schools require it and some psychological evaluations include an IQ test.

Thank you

We did an IQ test for my daughter because we were thinking about private. She scored a 140. Definitely not one of the smartest kids in class either; probably just a bit above average.

Usually the HGC kids are at 145 or above.

Hm.. I don't think that this is true. Does the HGC test score correlate somehow to an IQ score? If not, then there's no way you could know this.

You do realize that tests that early aren't reliable. If you tested him at age 12 or 16, chances are his IQ will be lower.

This is statistically true, however the difference would be slight. He might score at 140 now, the horror!

His second test was at age 15 and consistent with the first.

+1 Why do you feel the need to make statements you can't support because you don't have any data to support it?

Gosh, same here. There are a lot of us smart, anxious, underemployed people in this area. With kids who may be headed the same way...I really work on my kids' social / emotional intelligence and emphasize it more than the "intelligence." DH has an IQ of 160; I'm not sure of mine but I know it is high because the school called my mother in to discuss it with her.... Kids are in a small private where they learn better social skills than their parents have.

I tell my kids they are smart enough to do anything they want to do but not smart enough to get there without hard work. All 3 are MoCo magnet HS kids.

I shared the confidential data with you, but I cannot reveal my sources. You can choose to believe or not. Obviously, this is not the HGC test score.
