Promiscuous Women?

Anonymous
I am a woman and I think OPs question was interesting. I do wonder what men classify as promiscuous.

What is considered an average number for a 25 year old woman vs a 50 year old woman.

I can tell you when I know to run

When I meet someone for an activity and they start flirting with other men while I am there That is the type of woman to run from

What do you consider "flirting with other men"?

No, i just wanted to see if there were different points of view in America.

Thank you. I thought the term was an objective one in english, not as value ladden as the danish term "billige pige" (cheap girl).

Looking them in the eye.

No, my "promiscuity" wasn't a problem in attracting a good man with whom I wanted to have a long term relationship (and if you didn't catch the context clues, it was not with the man who called me promiscuous).

I don't know what you mean by "settle down" sexually. If I was promiscuous because I had sex before marriage, I suppose I settled down the second I was married.

I could only think of the english term. My husband is american.

Having said that, extreme promiscuity often seems correlated with other issues that are negatives, such as abuse, substance issues, etc., so it can be a red flag in a potential long-term partner until you can rule those issues out. But if it turns out a woman just likes sex a lot and has a healthy view of it, it's not an issue.

That was my thought as well.

Tina Fey never said she waited until marriage. She said she was a virgin until she was 24. She got married in 2001 when she was 31.

But that implies there is such a thing as a "promiscuous woman" and we all agree there isn't such a thing.

No, we don't all agree that there's no such thing as s promiscuous woman. That's just incorrect - and I AM a woman. And not an overly religious one who saved themselves for marriage, either. There are promiscuous people of both genders, absolutely. The problem is the double standard that, societally, it's somehow a positive for a man (or at least not a negative) and it's a negative when it's true about a woman. Just because you don't like the way the term is used doesn't mean it simply isn't true. Overweight people should not be "fat-shamed" - this does not mean you can go around saying there are no overweight people. It's simply not true.

Disagree. Promiscuity is subjective--some people would consider anyone who's slept with anyone outside marriage to be promiscuous, others wouldn't consider someone with dozens of partners to be promiscuous. It's just a social construct, and not one that anyone can agree upon. So no, you can't point at someone and intone "there be a promiscuous woman".
