Where is Shining Stars moving?

Love the school, and don't care where they move... as long as they move. My dislike of the current location has mutated to hate.

What do you hate about it?

Not the last poster, but cars blow down Chillum place about 15 MPH over the speed limit; drop off is a bit of a stressor if you can't do kiss-an-go for some reason.

Mostly this, and the physical size of the school. They do a great job with what they have, but... and yes, drop off is kind of a nightmare.

At today's open house, the principal said they are down to two locations. One in Ward 1 and one in Ward 5. She was very enthusiastic about both. Apparently the ED will be announcing the location in 2-3 weeks.

I wonder if the Ward 1 space is back to Bridges or if that was too bad last year? Bridges officially moves next SY, correct?

Both that space and the one next to it with a different landlord (which they were looking at last year, apparently) are on Taylor Street, which is ward 4.

The current Bridges location is in Ward 4, not Ward 1.

Can't be Bridges, it's in Ward 4. I think it's too small . They are expanding to 200 students in 16-27.

Sorry, 2016-2017.

What's in ward 1? I had to look it up on the map. Tangental question--why is it so small and in the middle of wards 4 and 5?

But what schools are there--there?

I'd love to hear why you love the school-- I'm working on the lottery list for my PK3 kid.

I don't understand this question. There is a ton in Ward 1. Col. Heights, Shaw, Howard U. Not sure if folks remember but way back SS initial permanent location was supposed to be in a building on Howard's campus. Wonder if that is again an option.

I volunteer in my child's classroom a lot, and the kids and teachers really impress me. There's that "quiet hum" that people talk about with engaged children. And my child's classroom really does seem like a family. The school seems well rum, the new principal is very hands on and loving. My child is thrilled to go to school--and that was not always the case. (We're a few years past prek.) Academically, I love that the kids are learning about things--it is not all worksheets and test prep, which was the case previously. They do a lot of reading, art, math... Really the only limitations involve the physical facility. Which is crowded and not great.
