shorts (not yoga pants) at gym?

I like wearing shorts at the gym, but I usually wear 2 in 1 shorts (with compression style shorts attached underneath) to prevent flashing people when I bend over or do exercises on the ground.

No one cares about you wearing shorts.

I noticed in our exercise class that the ladies 50 and older (including me) all wear shorts, and the younger women all wear yoga pants. I think we all just grew up wearing shorts exercising. Don't you all get hot wearing pants while working out?

I wear running shorts at the gym. I throw sweats over them when walking to/from my car.

I run regularly on my treadmill at home. I recently joined a gym, though, because I want to start weight training for my arms. I have a large collection of Nike running shorts, which I love, but...I am the only one wearing them at the gym. All of the other women are wearing yoga pants. Are my running shorts a fashion faux pas, or do they just make me look like I'm trying to dress like a teen? My legs are in great shape, but the shorts are short. I don't do yoga or mat work, just weights at the gym (and my treadmill at home, but my shorts are fine for that). Again, I know this is superficial, but I'd like to know if wearing my Nike running shorts looks ridiculous, or as if I haven't updated my sport wardrobe since college (true, in a way, because I've just been ordering new running shorts for years and years from Nike).

You're fine. It's just the weather. It's January. I wear tights/yoga pants in January. I wear shorts as soon as it warms up.

Doesn't your gym have walls and doors? My gym is really warm inside right now.

As long as you're not flashing people when you do stuff (which would be my concern about running shorts while doing certain leg machines), I wouldn't worry about it.

I wear shorts to the gym unless I'm doing yoga. Typically I'm wearing loose basketball/soccer/fitness shorts over spandex shorts to lift, and running shorts for running.

(I've been doing this for years and never gotten any kind of staph infection.)

15:23 here - some of those women might be wearing pants instead of shorts so they don't have to shave their legs as often when it's cold out. I know I've had that impulse.

We saw her and whispered about her.

Everyone at the gym.

only because you are jealous.

I use to only ever wear shorts before yoga pants/capris became the thing to wear. If I still had nice legs like I did in my younger days I still wear them especial in the summer when it's hot.

The point is there is no group called "everyone at the gym". Most people do not know anyone or care what you wear.

I work at a gym. You are totally fine. Just wear what's comfortable and appropriate!

after reading this post I checked out what people at my gym were wearing this morning and I counted at least 4 women in shorts this morning (it was early so they gym wasn't too crowded)

Like others, I wear yoga pants mostly because I don't like the way my legs look in shorts. I'm not out of shape, but I don't have great legs, especially in the winter. You go girl!

I wear tight ventilated pants that hit my knee when doing cardio, and yoga pants or capris when doing yoga or barre. Either when I'm dong strength training. I had the shorter Nike shorts when I started working out, but they made me self-conscious. The short pants do a good job of coverage without making me sweaty. I don't like having anything on my knees during cardio!

Sounds hot. Just do it.

I wear shorts to the gym. I sweat like crazy, and I cannot wear those tight leggings. I literally can't finish my workout I get so hot. I know I look really outdated, but oh well.

I wear whatever's clean, whether that's shorts or capri leggings. I could not care less either way (other than the shorts are cooler and thus more comfortable) and I doubt most of the people there do, either. I go to work out, and that's all.
