Did any of you women marry beta men? Are you happy?

Anonymous
I didn't but I think it does work for some couples. The wife has to be a beta as well though to tolerate a beta male song both are relatively unambitious, laid back, and easygoing, it works and I've seen it. It's when one has so much more drive, ambition, nerve, work ethic, etc. that the shortcomings of the other become problematic.

Most alpha men want an alpha female too.

That should say AS LONG AS BOTH, not song both...

Warrants mentioning, that Alpha and Beta designations rarely correlate to how successful one is in their career, at least as far as financial success goes and doesn't correlate at all with qualities such as being driven or a hard worker.

Being too much of a try-hard is a classic Beta quality and it can lead to great financial success. Think Zuckerberg.

Okay, what I grew up calling alpha/beta behavior is not at all what the rest of you are talking about. Is there some new urban slang around this?

Using my age-old definitions, my husband is not a charismatic leader and is not a quick decision maker. To me, that means he's a beta. I'm not charismatic but in a situation lacking a leader, or in a group taking way too long to make a decision, I tend to jump into a leadership role - so that would be alpha behavior.

But you all seem to have something else in mind entirely.

People who are doctors, lawyers and successful in highly competitive fields are NOT betas.

What is a good definition? I hear it referenced all the time but don't really know what qualities makes one beta or alpha.

+1! I guess according to this forum, my DH being a lawyer = alpha, who's also a fed = beta, who went to a top 10 lawschool = alpha, has a fair/middling job title =beta, cares about kids/home for dinner/never cheats = alpha for me/beta to as*h*les like op, loves adventurous sex = alpha, with wife = beta.

Home alone much, OP? I'm not.

That is the generally accepted DCUM definition... it's wrong, but that is where this foum is.

Hey, pity we're both married (alpha), or I'd offer some nice tea (beta)

I don't agree with all that you said, but I 1000% agree with this! (Edited to think that I don't think OP is a bitch. She may just be trying to find something in her life, or that's how her friends talk, or... etc. Let's allow her that.)

We have money and we spend it making our lives easier and more fun. We prioritize family time (4 kids, spend time with extended family, too), and neither of us is trying to run a hospital or make CEO.

I'm more "type A" when it comes to finances and plans, and he's happy to go along most of the time. It works great for us.

+1. Every once in a while I find it hard to be the type A one; but then I look at friends of mine with more traditional "alpha" husbands, and I don't like what I see - it wouldn't work for me. So, I go home and hug DH and tell him that I love him, and I love the amazing husband and father that he is.

I married a man who is not and does not represent himself to be one half of a meaningless and trite binary.

Smoking hot.

Left my beta fiancée and married an alpha. He's hot at aggressive and great in bed. Unfortunately he likes to share his skills with other women..
