Star Wars-What order did you show your kids?

Also, see previous thread about how questions posted on DCUM seem to be getting dumber and dumber. You are worrying about what order you are seeking input on what order to show the Star Wars movies to your newborn???

I'm sorry, I was unaware that DCUM was no longer about fun and entertainment. I guess the only questions allowed are the ones where we figure out world peace. Give me a break...

They didn't really notice how outdated/archaic they were, so then when we got to the "newer" movies they were blown away. I think that for them )ages 5, 7 and 8, going backwards 20 years in graphics they may not have been as enthralled by the old movies having seen the new stuff first. Older kids may have appreciated the storyline integrity more, but at my kids ages I think that taking them forward through technology worked better.

*shrug*. I'm so not a star wars fan I pretty much fell asleep through most of them, but the ewok episode kept me awake for sure. I pretty much want an ewok.

You're right, you're not a Star Wars fan.

You know you're in the Entertainment and Pop Culture forum, right?

OP here--what age did you show your kids? I'd like to wait until 6yo, which is when I first saw it. But I'm thinking that might be too old. I don't want him to hear about the spoilers before hand. Is 4yo too young?

This is just insane. There are a lot more important things to worry about for a child who has not been born.

To keep this on the Entertainment level, try reading him some classic books, like "Goodnight Moon," before you stress (literally!) about when to show him Star Wars.

I'm a fan of the original trilogy and I liked those ewoks

the newer trilogy is complete shit and I honestly felt like I lost several hours of my life on ep 3.

My child hasn't seen the 1,2 and 3 movies and likely never will. At least not in my house.

Like the others, we did 4-5-6 and then 1-2-3.

We did this for two reasons:

1) One of my kids really wanted to see Darth Vader and he wasn't going to sit through 3 movies to get there.

2) Who wants to sit through 3 awful movies just to get to the good stuff.

Machete order sounds brilliant and I will be watching them this way when I binge in preparation for Ep VII.

As far as the prequels go, it goes without saying that I was utter garbage and II was meh, but III was not that bad. It helps that the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin was the best in the entire saga.

Exactly. Watch them as god intended.

They count in that they are part of the story and kids do like them. But, 4-6, then 1-3, is the ONLY correct order. All Star Wars true fans agree on this.

No most true fans believe the order is 4,5,2,3,6.

i need to look into machete order, but in the meantime i plan to show them to my kids 456, 123.

mainly because there is that awesome moment at the end of 3 when vader gets his helmet and takes his first "Darth Vader" breath, but it's not awesome if you don't already associate it with Darth Vader.

Ugh, seriously? I can't believe anyone liked 3 at all. I honestly thought it was effing terrible. I get how it links the 2 trilogies, but i wanted my money back after I wasted time watching that mess of a movie.

I am Star Wars challenged but this is timely as my son and I are watching our first Star Wars movie. We are watching The Phantom Menace. My son says it is the first one, though I know it isn't the original one, which s what I thought we should watch first. Anyway, he's loving it. And he is 9.

Did 4,5,6,1,2,3 then watched the Star Wars: Clone Wars series. Amazing how much better Clone wars series was over the second trilogy abomination. Anyway, my star wars cannon (in chronological order) is Knights of the Old Republic, Clone Wars series, The Force Unleashed , Original Trilogy, and Heir to the Empire Series.
