What is your favorite cookbook and what is your top wish list cook book?

If only it were that simple!
I always make notes on the recipes, so the library's probably not a good idea for me!

I get cookbooks from the library all the time. I just love reading cookbooks. I find if I wind up renewing it or cooking more than one recipe more than once, then I go out and buy it anyway.

For the Zuni cookbook fan -- what recipes should I try? This has been on my shelf for probably 15-20 years now and I've only used it for two things. I would love to know your favorites.

The roast chicken with bread salad, obviously.
The pasta with bacon and roasted tomatoes is easy and to die for.
I also love the French fish stew with potatoes and leeks.

I am actually quite good a cook and her recipes annoy me somewhat because they are soooo exacting and long-winded, but it is a fun cookbook to read! I just wish there was a slimmed down version of each recipe at the end of her lengthy explanation so I didn't have to re-read through it each time I make the recipe. It's the complete opposite of Alice Waters cookbooks, which basically say, "I trust you. Here is a list of ingredients. Make something with them."

For the "Around My French Table" people: I just looked it up on Amazon, where they highlight the stuffed pumpkin recipe. Have you tried it?

Any recommendations for a cookbook for my MIL? Her husband doesn't eat beef or pork, so they do a lot of chicken and fish dishes.

I am planning to make this for Thanksgiving. I picked up a cheese pumpkin that looks right for this.

+1 She describes the process of a making a dish: what consistency to expect, when to adjust temperatures... The cookbook improved my cooking.
!
On my list - I wish to live in a house filled with cookbooks.

The pumpkin looks amazing and is now on my 'must make' list for Thanksgiving. She says to serve it immediately, but hopefully in a crockpot it can be transported locally....

We made Marie-Helene's apple cake with calvados instead of rum and it was a big hit.

Excuse me, a dutch oven rather than a crockpot....

Mary Barry's AGA cookbook and the AGA stove to go with it.

The Joy of Cooking. Great first cookbook.

I get them out and if I cook enough from it, I buy it.

I have been culling my collection over the past few years. I cook almost exclusively from various Americas Test Kitchen books.

I inherited a set of ATK titles and really enjoy reading their description of process. I did a beef stew from ATK last week that turned out really nicely.

Barely cooking these days with 2 small kids, but I love the Lucques cookbook and the Smitten Kitchen (and I 1000% agree with a PP about Fuschia Dunlop's books).

Dream cookbook for when I have time is "Cooking with Italian Grandmothers"

Any of Marcella Hazan's cookbooks, but Marcella's Italian Kitchen is my favorite.
