I get cookbooks from the library all the time. I just love reading cookbooks. I find if I wind up renewing it or cooking more than one recipe more than once, then I go out and buy it anyway. For the Zuni cookbook fan -- what recipes should I try? This has been on my shelf for probably 15-20 years now and I've only used it for two things. I would love to know your favorites.
The roast chicken with bread salad, obviously. The pasta with bacon and roasted tomatoes is easy and to die for. I also love the French fish stew with potatoes and leeks. I am actually quite good a cook and her recipes annoy me somewhat because they are soooo exacting and long-winded, but it is a fun cookbook to read! I just wish there was a slimmed down version of each recipe at the end of her lengthy explanation so I didn't have to re-read through it each time I make the recipe. It's the complete opposite of Alice Waters cookbooks, which basically say, "I trust you. Here is a list of ingredients. Make something with them."
