Was this racist? I need a reality check.

I'm gonna trust the reactions of the people who heard your comments in person. I WAS giving you the benefit of the doubt, but now with the ridiculous responses, you've lost all credibility.

First it was one person. Others were also sharing how the government could better help. Second ridiculous how? It is dumb to want someone who is homeless, perhaps disabled to get all the help they need in a much more streamlined and easy fashion?

I think you are making a great deal of assumptions because you want to be contrary. You stated I said a lot of people were cheating the system when I didn't. Now I have lost credibility because not enough is done to support people who are homeless. Something I am greatly invested in.

You asked for a reality check. Consider yourself checked.

"I think we should better help our citizens who need assistance"

Yes, so insensitive and dumb. Lets not forget racists.

OP ignore the Illiberal Progressives.

Well, if you are the PP stating I lost credibility you haven't given me a reality check at all. You haven't explained why I am "dumb" for wanting a better system or why it is ridiculous to feel a government bureaucracy that began nearly 100 years ago may not be serving people in 2015 in the best way. Or why you feel our government is doing all they can to help our citizens that are homeless or hungry.

I'd love to hear your views, because you haven't stated them yet. You've just been insulting with no substance to back it up.

^Is that all the substance you have?

Then you really have nothing to say or add at all do you?

You can't actually have a discussion with the OP can you, so you are resorting to being childish.

How sad.

Not really. I think your comments and the horrified reactions you got speak for themselves.

And I dont really feel like explaining racial privilege.

You can easily google all that stuff, though I get the feeling your end goal is just arguing until you can convince people you're not racist. Which, I can tell you now- isn't gonna work with me.

My comments have all been, "We have the ability to better help those who need it but we are not utilizing the system to its full potential." Enough to garner a horrified reaction?

I don't think this is a racial issue at all. People of all backgrounds, races, ethnicity, religions, have times when they are in a situation where they need help. We all pay into the system, we should all be able to access the benefits. I don't even understand how this is a racist issue, unless your assumption is only minorities need assistance, which is pretty ignorant.

I think the issue here is and forgive me for making an assumption about you, is that you are sensitive to racism so you've already made up your mind about the situation, so you are going to project all over it and make assumptions that are not there. Hence making the statement " Which, I can tell you now- isn't gonna work with me."

You still have not answered my questions, why is it racist and what was ridiculous about wanting to better a system that fails far too many? I feel like it is because you can't. So as a PP said, you are pulling the privilege card to "win" the argument.

Your comments and your inability to actually answer a single point brought up by the OP speaks more about you than any comment the OP has made.

^I think YOU'RE making the assumptions about me.

But I'm sorry- I don't have the time nor the inclination to explain to someone who honestly sounds like a fuckboy the way that race interacts with poverty and how callous it is to focus on the idea that people are "cheating the system". It shows a HUGE amount of privilege.

Again, you don't care about genuinely examining your beliefs. You just want to be validated, hear that you werent racist, and go back to the magical world you seem to live in in which tons of people magically cheat the welfare system and live high on the hog.

It's a gross attitude, and not really one I like to engage with. That's the extent of it.

Wow. I am not sure what to make of you. "Fuckboy"? Really? You are the only one who has focused on or mentioned "cheating the system". I mentioned fraud because there have been studies done on disability/SS fraud and how that money could be better channeled to really help those who need it. It was a tiny blip in a much greater statement. Somehow that struck a nerve in you and stuck in your mind and you cannot see around it.

I do care about examining my statement, this is why I asked, yet you have not once given an argument outside of a glib insult. Talk about a gross attitude.

I have stated time and again that I want a better system to help more people and to give been help. To really be able to move forward instead of simply exist. You have not once explained why you feel that is racist, dumb, obtuse, ridiculous or any other insult you've hurled. I am beginning to think it is because you can't.

that should say "and to give beneficial help"

You keep rejecting people's opinions about you being racist. I dont know what to tell you dude. It seems like you just arent willing to listen. Probably why your friend at the cocktail party got annoyed.

And yes- after all your responses I can 100% verify: you ARE a fuckboy. Congrats.

That is a nice cop out for when you are in over your head during a discussion. I will have to remember that.

OP I don't think your idea could be implemented, even though it is valid and could really make a change. Because as you see if you even mention it you get peoples hackles up and they cannot even explain why. They just know "its racist" so you must be stupid.
