Was this racist? I need a reality check.

But I'm sorry- I don't have the time nor the inclination to explain to someone who honestly sounds like a fuckboy the way that race interacts with poverty and how callous it is to focus on the idea that people are "cheating the system". It shows a HUGE amount of privilege.

Again, you don't care about genuinely examining your beliefs. You just want to be validated, hear that you werent racist, and go back to the magical world you seem to live in in which tons of people magically cheat the welfare system and live high on the hog.

It's a gross attitude, and not really one I like to engage with. That's the extent of it.

Wow. I am not sure what to make of you. "Fuckboy"? Really? You are the only one who has focused on or mentioned "cheating the system". I mentioned fraud because there have been studies done on disability/SS fraud and how that money could be better channeled to really help those who need it. It was a tiny blip in a much greater statement. Somehow that struck a nerve in you and stuck in your mind and you cannot see around it.

I do care about examining my statement, this is why I asked, yet you have not once given an argument outside of a glib insult. Talk about a gross attitude.

I have stated time and again that I want a better system to help more people and to give been help. To really be able to move forward instead of simply exist. You have not once explained why you feel that is racist, dumb, obtuse, ridiculous or any other insult you've hurled. I am beginning to think it is because you can't.

You keep rejecting people's opinions about you being racist. I dont know what to tell you dude. It seems like you just arent willing to listen. Probably why your friend at the cocktail party got annoyed.

And yes- after all your responses I can 100% verify: you ARE a fuckboy. Congrats.

You haven't given a single opinion about why, so how can I reject it? I am very willing to listen, that is why I keep engaging you, but again, you've said very little.

As for "fuckboy", I had to look that bit of crudeness up. “A ‘fuckboy’ is a young man who sleeps with women without any intention of having a relationship with them or perhaps even walking them to the door post-sex. He’s a womanizer, an especially callous one, as well as kind of a loser.” If that is what I mean, you are way way off base again. I am a married woman with four children.

You are not entitled to my time. Or to getting basic lessons about the racial/welfare connection in the United States.

Educate yourself- no one owes anything to you...

After all your responses I have concluded you are a) a troll b) an idiot c) drunk d) a little bit of all three. Care to verify that?

I don't agree with the OP, but I don't think they are racist or dumb. It is a valid ideal they have and they seem to be passionate about helping others.

It must just mean something in your very narrow world, because I googled it and found the same shit the OP did and variants on it. And I am in no way a grandma.

Again, you haven't explained why YOU think that the idea of better helping people gain access to assistance is racist.

You do understand that the majority of people receiving food stamps are white, right? Needing assistance and struggling with poverty doesn't choose a color. This is about helping citizens of the united states benefit from a flawed system.

And you can ridicule me for not understanding your slang all you want, it doesn't divert from the fact that you have said nothing of substance. I think I am done going in circles with you, I really tried to actually discuss the situation at hand, I did.

Have the last word.

Wow Jezebel has spoken. We've all been told.

BTW their definition is a man who "ain't shit" (so eloquent) if that is what you got from the smart and detailed argument put for by the OP than I think you should google "reading comprehension"

No, you aren't a racist; the current system is flawed. As a taxpayer whose money funds the system you certainly have a right to demand efficiency and accountability. Questioning how well the welfare system in the U.S. is spending money is just as appropriate as questioning how well our military system is working. Honestly, both are doing a poor job.

I was getting really annoyed with you and with the OP for engaging you in a circular argument, but now I realize you must be in that smug (young) age where you think you know it all but can't actually back it up when questioned about it.

You'll learn, you'll look back and cringe. We've all been there.

+1000 I agree.

More people should speak up and scrutinize government spending, especially money we send overseas. Can you imagine if just half of that was available as assistance here in the US?

Being called a racist is often used as a cheap shot now days.

OP, if you had referenced a particular ethnic group in your statement and said [ethnic group] are a bunch of crooks and are defrauding the system blah blah, that would have been racist. Your friend is a twit.

Anonymous wrote:This weekend at a get together the subject of government assistance came up and I made the statement that I thought the entire system should be scrapped and a better more cohesive one put in place. I feel like people aren't getting the hand up that they need and that should be the focus, to get the support they need until they can stand on their own. I feel like if all assistance went through one agency we could better provide for each specific case and maybe weed out fraud (there will always be some fraud I am sure). I feel like the system is overwhelmed and overburdened and one of the reasons is its just so large and spread out. Some people who might not even know all the help that is available to them. A central agency could even collect data on charitable organizations for easy access to those who needs match the service.

Anyway, for this I was called a racist. Straight up to my face, "Wow, that is racist, I wouldn't expect that from you" then a lecture about my white privileged and not "grasping the concept".

I rarely curse but WTF just keeps going through my mind. Seriously was that racist? Wanting people who are in need be able to get better assistance and easier access?

I like the bolded idea. I think there are so many great charities out there and might even give better help for certain situations.

Thank you. When I mentioned fraud both to my friend and here I was thinking of disability fraud, that is a real problem. It puts a strain on the government and on private insurance companies that then trickles down and puts a financial strain on everyone. I am appalled by how little people receive in food stamps and no one in the United States should go hungry, period. Imagine if the money going to someone faking a back injury was going to someone who needed to feed their family and could not, now keep multiplying it. It would make a big big difference. As I said, poverty doesn't care what race or ethnicity you are, it hurts you just the same.
