Couldn't agree more and to add to the discussion, I believe it depends on how you wear them... |
Ha! I'm over 50 and just got a pair. The great thing about getting old (and having survived serious, terrible things) is that you don't give a sh*t what anyone thinks. I dress for ME. |
| I have a pair that are distressed but they don't have any holes. I'm 38. I tend to dress young for my age and some of the ones with holes appeal to me, but I think I'm too old for that look and that it's kinda 90's anyway. |
+100 - seriously agree - enjoy life and save thinking that things are trashy for things that actually are. Why on earth do you worry if you are too old for something? |
My favorite pair of jeans is a straight boyfriend cuffed pair that was "distressed" when I bought them but morphed into some actual small holes where the distress was. I miss them SO much, I'm pregnant right now. They just are perfectly fit, perfectly comfy and perfect for fall.

| I have a pair that are naturally ripped in the knee and I love them. DH hates them. I have another pair that developed rips in the thighs and those I no longer wear because they look pretty trashy. I'm 30, 2 kids. |
Def Leppard agrees. |
| I loved my ripped jeans. In 1992. |
| My husband wears ripped jeans but he is admittedly a total slob on the weekends. For some reason the holes are usually in the crotch. Once the hole is big enough for anything to bulge out I risk divorce by throwing them away. |
| I have two pairs that have rips. I wear them when I'm at home cooking most of the day, or staging homes, or .... yeah really just if I'm home most of the day or want to wear clothes I don't care about getting dirty. |
| Love them. I have several with varying degrees of rips and knee holes. They give an instant edge to simple tops and sweaters. I'm a stay-at-home mom with a very boho style, so for me they're perfect. My favorites are Rag and Bone. |
| Also love rag and bone, Just bought several pairs from shopbop and anthro. I am 36. I wear them with classic striped shirts like St. James and anthro shirts. They have been "on trend" (gag) for about a year so its not some new wild novel thing. White ripped jeans are extra in right now, so, omg ladies, go choke on an olive or your poseur wasp garnish of choice. chicos does not yet have them, but Ann Taylor does, so I am sure they will be coming soon to a street near you. Steel yourselves. |
OP here- this is interesting, most of the women I saw were wearing them with the flannel plaid type shirts which I think are also coming back in style (admittedly, that is a trend from my youth that I actually like, bought one flannel at LL Bean which may be a questionable fashion choice). But the flannel and jeans together did not work (IMO), could see how with a simple, classic shirt, it may. |
