Which brand appliance should I go with for microwave, fridge, dishwasher and oven?

GE appliances are notoriously unreliable. I learned my lesson with a washing machine that lasted only 16 months. Do NOT buy GE appliances again. They are a running joke among the repair people I've talked to.

I loathe my kenmore microwave and fridge.

Don't get Whirlpool. We had to replace our microwave, dishwasher and oven within six years of purchase. Terrible, terrible appliances, gave us nothing but trouble.

Me, too. Doesn't dry and takes forever. It is quiet.

I heard there's a recall on Bosch dishwashers. Look out for this as I think it was causing fires.

The link says only for Bosch dishwashers made and sold in the UK

We have two kitchens full of Kenmore Elite everything and we have loved them. The microwaves we got at Costco - Samsung I think.

Depends how high end you want to go. I love my Viking microwave, oven, and refrigerator, and my Thermador induction range. My Miele dishwasher is just okay. It's quiet and cleans well on most settings, but it takes forever and doesn't dry.

The problem with Kenmore is that they don't make their own appliances. They pick other manufacturers' products and rebrand them with the Kenmore name. My old Kenmore refrigerator is an LG but if I bought one today, it would be a Samsung. My old Kenmore dishwasher was a Whirlpool but it will be something else if you bought one today. So, just because someone loves their 3-year-old Kenmore appliance, doesn't necessarily mean you'd get the same thing if you bought it now.

You have to evaluate each appliance separately. LG is generally considered tops in fridges and washer/dryers; I love mine. Kitchenaid has great dishwasher reviews, but I'm not happy with my choice. Just bought a Whirlpool range that theoretically meets all my needs and gets good reviews, but we'll see how it goes. You have to do your research - who are the top names in each appliance, and do their products match my requirements within my price range?

Don't expect current appliances to last like their predecessors - they won't. And don't expect them to operate the same, either. Manufacturers have to meet new requirements for water and energy conservation and safety; end result - many unhappy customers.

Avoid GE - profile or basic line. We've lived in 5 places in the last 12 years (don't ask) and 90% of the appliances we inherited were GE and they all suck. Fridge that broke three times in 3 years. Dishwashers that can't hold a glass upright (you'd think with 60 years of dishwasher history, they'd figure out how to position pegs for holding glasses). Freezer with shelves that were literally a few millimeters too short, so they fell down every time you put food on them. Seriously egregious issues both on the design side and the reliability side.

We also had serious issues with a Bosch double built in oven (and according to online reviews for that model, so did a lot of others - now replaced with a Bosch oven with much better reviews).

What have we been happy with:
- Frigidaire fridges. LOVE these. Good prices, good looks, excellent functionality and reliability.
- Bosch induction cooktop. Best induction controls out there.
- Miele and Bosch dishwashers

Wall ovens seem to be something you can do on the cheap - that is, the Frigidaire $1200 model works exceptionally well, while a $5000 Dacor model can drive you crazy. It just needs to heat up consistently and quickly, with simple controls.

Fridge - go for reliability and less features. We always buy fridges WITHOUT icemakers in the door, as I've never had an icemaker that didn't die within a 4 years and require expensive repairs. Or an ice maker that still worked but constantly froze over. The issue is that icemakers in the door are exposed to room temperatures and are harder to maintain.

Microwave - I have no input. We don't want a big ugly microwave taking up visual space in the kitchen, so we just have a $60 junk model that is kept in the cabinet.

Frigidaire appliances have a smudge-proof coating on them, so be aware that they don't match other stainless appliances.

Samsung Fridge, GE profile range and kitchen aid dishwasher

Bosch dishwasher doesn't dry dishes

we just got new appliances and went with Samsung. Very happy with them so far. My only unhappiness is the stainless isn't anti-smudge, but I love all the other features.

I'd say decide on which appliance or appliances out of the three are most important to you, and gear towards that. We were looking for oven features, then fridge, then dishwasher. We had a list of "must have" features, "nice to have" features, and "if we can get it" features, which helped. For us, slide in stove with no lip and availability of a counter depth fridge with the features we wanted were non negotiable, so that helped our decision greatly.

For us, it also doesn't hurt that DH and I have very similar tastes in styling

Our 9 year old Bosch dishwasher just died completely. Every year we had some major repair on it, and the panel got really gross and we had to order a replacement parts for it twice. Meanwhile we replaced an ancient, yet reliable, Kitchen Aid. Our appliance repair man said a Kitchen Aid with a stainless interior is what to get. We're looking at some this weekend.

We got a good deal with Thermador. We have the fridge and range and got a free bosch dishwasher with the package.
