Is a 12x10 ft bedroom too small or normal?

Just make sure to have at least 2 extra bedrooms.

The idea that kids having differently sized rooms is "unfair" and you should try to equalize it is unbelievable. It is unequal but not unfair. And kids sharing rooms isn't necessation any better. Insanity.

It's normal. We have a very standard 4 bedroom house and one of the bedrooms is 10x12 and another is 9x12. They each hold a kid along with a bed, dresser, and desk. We didn't even have to get fancy with one of those loft beds but you can do that since you have 9ft ceilings.

OP we live in an older house and our smallest bedroom is this size. The next smallest (which DH and I now use) is 11x13. We have a queen bed, dresser, small chest, and armoire plus a night stand in the 11x13. It's frankly too much but it does all fit.

Right now our DS and DD share the biggest bedroom but in another year or so we'll split them up and take the smallest room (due to house layout this makes the most sense). I think it's a fine size for a kid, even a teenager.

I hope every bedroom has it's own bathroom

That is the size of the smallest bedroom in our three bedroom townhome. I do wish it were a bit bigger, especially since we don't have that many other areas for my kids to play in. If I were building a home with other dedicated family room/play space areas I don't think I'd find that bedroom size a problem.

This. Our son never spent much time in his room at all. He was either at the kitchen table studying or in the basement at a desk down there studying and using the computer. I don't think it would have mattered how big his room was. He just did not spend time there.

Why? Our non-master bedrooms are that size and they all share one bathroom in the hall. The kids haven't complained.

It's fine, OP. Were you raised in a McMansion or something?

It is fine, OP. We have 2 boys in school who share a room that size. It is a comfortable place for them to sleep and relax. It does help you keep from acquiring too much useless stuff.

OP. you do not want your kids to have a desk in their room. There should be a central area w here supervised homework can be done. Bedrooms should be for sleeping not for hiding and pretending to work

Sounds normal to me. Our smallest room is 10×10. Most houses we have lived in have been like that. You can easily fit a double bed in that space. We keep toys etc. Separate so it isn't a big deal.

These responses are obviously mostly from spoiled rich people.

My teen's room is that size. Twin bed, desk, bookshelf, nightstand, and an Elfa closet system for all the clothes. No issues.
