Wow. Was this at a rental house? |

Then boyfriend/now husband scrimped money together for 2 plane tickets to Palm Springs while we were both in grad school. His grandparents had a condo there, and a car, and we could stay for free. I cried, I was so happy.
Then a series of unfortunate events took place and I REALLY cried. His parents decided to go too. Without asking us they booked tickets. There was only one bedroom, so they helpfully suggests we could sleep on an air mattress on the floor in the living room. They took the car and helpfully pointed out we could rent a car (we were dead ass broke grad students) His grandparents decided since it was a family reunion to go there too. His parents got the air mattress. We slept toe to toe on this couch. 5 feet from them. Since now there were 6 of us, we ended up driving everyone around in the rental car. So we had to be home by 8. For their bedtime. Which ended up being okay since they don't go out to eat "why spend the money when I made bean soup for everyone?" Oh and it wasn't actually a condo in Palm Springs. It was a pre fab home about an hour and a half away. We went there once, family in tow. |
You are a better woman than me. But no freakin' way could I do that. And I have slept in cellars and tents before at get togethers. Glad you survived and are still with your husband! |
OMG. They should have made an emergency landing. |

Yes and I even made a thread about it: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/490410.page
My BIL (widower) has remarried and his DW has two boys that are absolute monsters. Obese, glued to video games and throw tantrums at the drop of the hat to get their way. We all spent the summer trying to enjoy our family vacation home while these little terrorists insisted on nuggets and mac n cheese at every meal, didn't participate in any activities, farted and burped in church and were just generally horrible. Their mom seemed proud of them and kept them stocked in junk food and games. I don't want advice about this, because there is zero I can do. I just feel horrible for my three nieces who have to put up with their new step brothers. Besides I can only imagine the can of worms it would open if anyone said anything to them or their mother. |
Wow, PP. That is horrible.

When DH and I were dating for 3 months we decided to take a 4 day trip about 3 hrs away. He booked a romance package...hot tub on deck, champagne, house drawn carriage ride, romantic dinner etc. Within 4 hrs of getting there he startEd having stomach problems. Which turned into full blown flu the next morning. He was too sick to drive home so I spent our romantic trip taking care of sick bf and drinking champagne alone in the hot tub. He was still so miserable on our return home I had to drive his car.
B&B was nice and refunded that romance package. We went back later in the year for a do over lol |
Yes & no. It was our rental house - we were using it to host several friends and their kids. All 8 bedrooms had to be fumigated. 2 bedrooms (4 beds) totally replaced. Everyone had to vacate immediately and bc we were the owners, we were not moved to a new property. The upsides being 1. This didn't happen to guests (& we didn't lose the income for that week) 2. The bed bug remediation was totally covered by the rental company, including new beds and 3. No one other than me got bites - and I figured out what was going on very quickly. |

6 months pregnant on huge family reunion beach trip to OBX. Toddler nephew arrived puking. Then, his parents had it the next day. I woke up in the middle of next night with nausea and vomiting. Spent two days in bed recovering.

nbn I did a cruise with 2 year old also and it was horrible. I am single mom and both of us cried in our room together every day for first 3 days, and I lost DC's lovey in the trip too |

We went to Fiji on our honeymoon in 2002. Stayed at a really nice place but I hated the food. DH was fine with it. I ate mostly fruit and bread and potatoes.
We had to spend most of the day in a hotel by the airport before flying back. We went to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner. I was so hungry after not eating any protein for 10 days that I chowed down. As we were getting ready to board the 10 hour flight to LA I got horribly sick. I spent the entire flight visiting the various bathrooms. It was so bad. Then, the flight home from LA to Dulles was filled with teens from China. They were horribly behaved. They were sitting in aisles, loud, obnoxious and rude. The pilot had to yell at them it was so bad. For the kicker, one of them stood up in the last 30 min of the flight and we almost were diverted. I spent the next three days in bed after we got home. I ended up losing 10 pounds. Who comes home from their honeymoon having lost weight? Only me. DH made up for it with a trip to Nevis that spring break. Now that was an awesome trip. |

This is therapeutic.
- Signed, mom who has a crazy summer (including two funerals) and not enough time or $ to go anywhere fun. |
