| ^^^ the NCAA better enact harsh penalties including stripping all wins and championships during the cheating period or they show blatant racism and support for modern day slavery. These athletes were not compensated with an education in any way , shape or form. |
The linked article talks about SACS which is not a government organization, nor a national one. It's a regional accrediting body. |
But the federal government obeys their ruling when it comes to federal funding/grants . |
| Horrendous! |
The federal government requires that universities be accredited for certain purposes, and this is one of the regional private organizations that provides this accreditation. Totally different from a federal accrediting agency. |
| "Totally" seems to be quite a stretch. |
I am AA and a former ACC athlete and I agree with this. The "deal" is using my athletic skill to the benefit of your school (and its bottom line) in exchange for a quality education. At some schools, the deal is different - "in exchange for a short train to the pros." But UNC billed itself as a school for the true student athlete. So they used athletes but gave them a scrap education in return - an education far inferior to the education that other students got. Imagine the stigma. For many of these kids, the fact that they went to UNC AND played sports is a strike against them because people will assume that their education is sub-standard. Worse part about it is that they were advised to take these types of classes -even the ones who did not want to. A group of former AA student athletes are suing the school and a number are transferring out. I know that it happens other places - my alma mater used to discourage revenue athletes from majoring in STEM fields - but for it to be so blantant at UNC is a shame. |
| UNC will lose Federal funding pretty soon. |
|
What UNC did is a shame, but the reality is that most of their football players would not qualify too even get into the school, and most have little interest in serious studying.
The players were "victimized" by UNC in the same sense that an obese person was victimized by McDonald's and Coca Cola. Most of them knew full-well that it was BS and didn't care. That doesn't excuse UNC for running a sham, but equating it to modern day slavery is ridiculous. |
In the words of Cardel Jones, OSU's NC winning QB: "Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL classes are POINTLESS" |
Why is he incorrect? Plus, it's Ohio State. |
| He's incorrect because if there is no education, and he doesn't make the Pro's his unpaid work is slave labor . Play arena or minor league football if you don't want an education. Most schools have their programs following NCAA rules and standards of decency. Cheaters get punished when caught since they cheated their opponents out of fair competition and steal the rewards of honest work performed by their opponents . |
unfortuantely it won't |
He's not incorrect; 99% of D1 football players are there to play football. I was merely posting to backup the point of the poster I quoted. |
| ^^ that's rediculous . UNC has been hit by lawsuits. No other school has been sued for providing classes with grades for not ever showing up or doing any educating. |
