That is correct. It was entirely up to the discretion of the United States. Many factors were probably taken into account, not in the least was the ability for the European Jews to assimilate easily and readily into American society and not be a burden.

The problems in Eritrea (and Ethiopia and Somalia and Syria) can not be solved by absorbing their entire populations into other countries. While kind-hearted, this is ridiculously short-sighted.

No one is obligated to help victims of human trafficking, or of natural disasters, or of famine, and yet we do.
