Mundo Verde parents?

I think we will see if MV is all it's cracked up to be when their first set of scores is released. Those kids will have been there for four years. What are the results? Are kids succeeding there?

You like that it's popular? Why?

spanish fluency is really good

so focused on awards and "being innovative" that they neglect many basic responsabilities of a school.

And Dahlia, she's just awful.

Why? Her bio looks good...

Why would you make an unsubstantiated disparaging remark about someone who is largely responsible for the care and education of your child for most of the week?

Likes - Kid loves school and her Spanish has gone from absolute zero to good conversational in a few months. Love our teachers. Parents super involved. New building will be even better next year when its all finished. School meetings translated into Spanish.

Dislikes - Meetings take longer because everything is translated into Spanish.

Dislikes: not a high enough commitment to physical activity outside, for long periods each day, rain or shine. Formal music instruction could be stronger.

Likes: amazingly talented, energetic, and committed teachers across grades. Highly diverse and internationally focused parents.

Anonymous wrote:Likes: engaged community. Engaging, loving teachers. full immersion up to K with wonderful language acquisition by my child. Differentiation in upper grades. incredible diversity. Our first year and we are super happy. my child loves school and comes home wanting to talk about it. we love the mission and the responsive administration.
dislikes: aftercare expensive, lots of meetings and committees.

As a point of reference, how much is aftercare? "Expensive" to you may not be to me (and vice versa). Plus for most families some expense for aftercare is a sunk cost so it would be helpful to understand what kind of numbers are in play.

+1. We moved them farther down our list precisely because of the unknown. If those scores come out and they're not good then the gild will come off the lily. I am NOT suggesting the scores will be bad or taking shots at MV. We toured it and it was impressive. And, yes, scores aren't everything. But neither are they nothing.

$120 for before care, so you can be as high as $640 if you need both.

Compared to other DC public schools, that is expensive! Do any public schools in this area charge more than MV?

I think YY may be close, but not as high. I think the average is $300-$350. This is the sole reason we did not apply. Even if we can afford it, I can't respect a school that doesn't respect the needs of many families. Sure they give discount for poor folk, but there are many working poor families.

I call B.S. To say you didn't rank it there because of your principles is beyond stupid. Whatever MV is it's diverse and serves families from a variety of socioecomonic backgrounds. But, hey, if that's what helps you sleep at night then go with it!
