Drinking Wine during the 3rd trimester????

This is not the cigarette pp, but I had to say, you know the medical community has never found a glass of wine a week to be safe? There is no known safe amount of alcohol. So it comes down to your risk tolerance. And in my opinion, it's not worth it.

Here is a good article on the subject, if you are in the moderation camp, that is.

For those who think its ok (I'm in that camp) every once in awhile, then have a glass. For the folks who think "it's not worth it" then don't have a glass. Keep your self-righteous comments and ridiculous comparisons to yourself.

OP, if you're asking if you'd have company in having a glass now and then, then yes. I had prob. 1 small glass of wine a week for the latter half of my pregnancy. My Doc said it was ok, which was good enough for me. And, it relaxed me, which I desperately needed in the later stages of pregnancy.

agree with above poster.

I've enjoyed about a glass or two of wine a week since my first trimester ended & would highly recommend it. Also had an occasional glass during my first pregnancy with absolutely no ill effects, and drank regularly while BF (just waited until baby was down for the night). I generally imbibe at home, though, to avoid comments from folks like the previous posters!

and me too. moderation is the key. My MIL was prescribed Guinness by her OB when pregnant with my husband. And I can vouch he is fine. Soon we will all have to live in a plastic bubble for 9 months to protect our unborn child..... Go with what you feel is right for you. I had a glass around once a week during my 3rd trimester. It certainly relaxed me and made me feel a part of the human race again.

had only a few sips in the third trimester, and felt secretly mad inside at how militants have made me feel furtive and guilty about my sips. hubby also felt we had to be furtive and encouraged me to do it only secretly at home and not so much in public. it's never really going to be straightened out.

I have had an occasional glass of wine since the end of my first trimester, 1 or 2 glasses per week with food. My husband and I are from countries where a pregnant woman enjoying a glass of wine in public is not an odd sight.

There was an exchange about this on thenestbaby.com last week including opinions from two OBs. One who came in on the none side b/c there was no indication it was safe, the other came in on the moderation side b/c there was no indication it was unsafe.

You know I am sitting here reading this with my can of caffeine free diet pepsi right by me..can't help but wonder if my soda habit albiet caffeine free is worse than an occasional glass of wine.

The antioxidants in wine are actually probably better than a diet pepsi full of artificial sweeteners. I wouldn't feel bad about having a cup of either from time to time.

From wikipedia:

Some nutritionists assert that the phosphoric acid component of Pepsi-Cola, and other similar soft drinks, may be deleterious to bone health in both men and women, with some studies finding the effects to be more notably pronounced in female subjects. See phosphoric acid in food.
Pepsi and other similar products contain large amounts of sugar. Excessive sugar intake is thought to be a contributing factor in the development of certain types of diabetes. Sugar is also a leading contributor to tooth decay. The carbonation present in Pepsi as well as most soft drinks inhibits some calcium intake and, in extremely rare cases, can lead to osteoporosis.
In addition, both 'diet' and non-diet variants are highly acidic, which is a cause of degradation of tooth enamel, making decay due to subsequent sugar intake more likely. This is particularly exacerbated when a drink is sipped at frequent intervals throughout the day.

man--the diet pepsi habit is proving more dificult than the wine..although I will absolutely have a glass or two during this pregnancy--whoops if that offends.

16:29 poster here. My point was that if you just do a quick google search you can find a 'reason' why everything we ingest is bad for us. You can't possibly believe it all.

OP here: WOW, didn't know this would start WWIII!!! I've had a 1/2 glass of wine and it was nice. I definitely am not going to do that every day, but I enjoyed it. I will talk to my Dr. on Monday to get their take on this subject.

OP, really? Did you miss the caffeine thread? the pedicure thread? etc.

That said, I vote you enjoy your wine.
