Counter height kitchen tables? Love it, hate it, will it go out of style?

... b/c I have one of those????? right.

Ha, that's true. Not everyone has a breakfast bar. We have one now and we added one in our old house but we didn't have one for years before that.

is a breakfast bar also called a penninsula or is it something else? Not sure what makes something a "breakfast bar".

I don't get it. How is sitting at one of these different than sitting at a standard kitchen island with counter height stools?

I don't find that particularly comfortable either.

No. Unless you have extremely high ceilings, counter-height tables make a room look smaller.

I find these sets very uncomfortable to sit on for any period of time.

Not great for grandparents, either.

they are uncomfortable because your feet don't touch the floor, your legs hang.

11 ft. ceilings... but I am concerned about the chairbacks blocking the view or looking cluttery b/c the space is not expansive.

Isn't that the reason they have a wooden rung on the chairs?

Yes. You place your feet on the rung. My family finds it very comfortable, but our chairs are padded.

You can always saw off the legs to make it less high, I suppose?

What do you think?

OP! I actually HAVE this exact table and it's such great quality! I bought it maybe 6 years ago when I was single and living in the city -- it was a great fit for my airy open high ceilinged city apartment. It has moved with us three times since I bought it (further and further out to the suburbs and now I have a husband and kid). I have to say that it has held up VERY well, it has a few scratches that I think I could cover up with a marker but haven't done and I really love that the leaf folds out of the table. That said, it's a VERY tight fit with 8 people so I don't recommend it if that's what you want it for. We normally keep it a rectangle with 4 chairs but we can seat 6 at the rectangle tightly and 6 is much better when it's a square. I haven't tried 8 but considering the tight fit with 2 on one side when it's a rectangle, I can't imagine it's any different when it's a square.

It's a great table, but not practical now that I have a climbing toddler - we're actually going to get rid of it and instead buy a rectangular table with a bench and leaf that expands it out to a larger rectangle. I'm also just getting sick of it, whereas our previous homes (other than loft-like apartment) had a separate dining room, our new place is completely open and it is too tall compared to our other furniture and looks awkward. I can't wait to get rid of it -- just waiting a few months since we've spent so much money since we moved in!

Um….after all that if you still want to buy it, and might want a used table in great condition, post here and maybe we can work something out.

PP here who has the table. I'm 5'2" and find the table comfortable.

PP again, they've changed the table a bit - mine is solid wood, no MDF or veneer.

Thanks for the tip and offer, PP . Thinking about it.
