NYU

NYU is a great school in the best neighborhood in the greatest city in the world. Of course, it is going to cost you. Is it worth the cost? Only you can decide that.

My SIL is a professor at NYU and thinks it's not worth the tuition for most majors. If you can afford it, don't sweat it, but don't borrow tons to send your kid there!

I went there for grad school and have banned my kids from applying.

It's worth it for Tisch and Stern.

^ We've been told that NYU is not worth the cost. It's all able being in the Big Apple. Period.

This. If money's no object, go nuts. But be aware that what you're paying for in part is housing and wages for marquee name profs your child might or might not get and creation of international campuses in countries with questionable freedom of expression. No one should send their child to NYU without reading this New Yorker article about the current NYU president's questionable mission.

between reading this and other research my husband and I did, we ruled out NYU for our oldest (who's now happily at W&M for a lot lot less and better academics).

Again, it is an individual choice -- there are some good programs, and some benefits from living in NYC, but IMO there is no way those benefits are worth the cost of attending NYU as an undergrad.

Sexton’s “imperial” mission, the bloating of the administration, the disenfranchisement of faculty, and the creation of campuses in countries with limited commitments to freedom of expression.

I'm not paying for my kid to live in NYC - they can do it on their own like I did. I can understand the allure, but NYU doesn't have a cohesive feel. Except I guess now NYU owns the lower half of Manhattan - so perhaps it's cohesive from a real estate sense. When I was there it felt like a commuter school. Unless you are uber wealthy, living in NYC is hard; I honestly don't believe it is worth the cost, even for Tisch.

I went there and refuse to give because Sexton: a) gave Lew $900K when he left (and this clown resigned on his own and made a mint at Citigroup and b) they are giving financial aid to illegal aliens. Guess if you are trying to strive from the working class, you don't count in this megalomaniac's world.

I completely forgot about that. A fine use of University money. People should go into this school with their eyes open.

NYU: A fool and her money are soon parted.

My son is dying to go to college in NYC. We are looking at NYU and the New School. What can I say. Do I think it's worth it? No. Do I care? Not really. If I can afford it and he's wants to go, we''ll make it happen.
