My kid didn't apply but some of her friends got in and out of curiosity I looked up the fees for the 2015-2016 school year. Holy crumbs - almost $70K?! Who can afford that? Is it even worth it?! |
It is fricking killer. We are doing it and it hurts. It really hurts.
Yes, it is worth it for certain majors and it is an all around great school with a fantastic location if your kid wants the city experience. |
It is the only school that DD ever wanted to go to. I'm glad she was accepted but seriously - ouch. Helps that she is our one and only. |
California parent here - DS was accepted in Tisch at NYU and we do think it is worth it. Yes, it is costly but I think Bennington is still more expensive. |
My friend's daughter went there. The first two years her ex shared the cost. After that my friend paid all - part from a home equity load against her house. She makes less than 100k. |
Loan, not load. |
That's just stupid. |
I went there, albeit years ago, but the need based aid packages made it less expensive than state schools for me. |
Paying for Tisch is not the same as paying for other schools in NYU. Tisch is, dare I say, elite. |
To state the obvious, you just end up paying for your child and those associated with NYU to live in one of the highest-cost cities in the country. The undergraduate academics are nothing special. Some of the graduate programs are good. |
If you really want to puke, read about the perks and bloated salaries many administrators get. Thank goodness for in state publics! |
Don't be so judgmental. She was helpng her kid out. |
Absolutely, PP - congratulations to your son! Getting into Tisch is a major accomplishment. |
Yes. The only advantage is that many companies in NY recruit at nyu simply because it is easy and doesn't cost anything for students to come in for interviews. That being said, I don't think it is that impressive in terms of the actual education. |
DH & I can't afford to live in NYC ourselves, so we aren't going to pay what it takes for our child to live there. Same w/Southern California. But if we had the money available, we would. |
