What did you get/give for your last anniversary

We have a date night, dinner and a movie. No gifts.

We follow the traditional guide and do something very small based on the tradition. We also try to do something for our house.. Last year we ordered a new couch/sectional (we desperately needed it). This year, we are thinking of re-doing the basement (basic paint and carpet not an overhaul or anything ridiculous).

Together or apart?

We kinda didn't do anything because we had a winter wedding so with the weather we kinda deferred it until one of us brings it up later when it's warmer out.

Probably dinner and a concert or movie. I have a designer cashmere scarf I got him that I'm dying to give him but it's light enough that he can use it later this spring.

6th anniversary: I got earrings and a nice dinner out at the place of my choosing. He got magnatiles, which he wanted. We had one set and he and DS (age 4) build these really elaborate structures and he wanted more.

14th anniversary. I got earrings and gave him a small painting with sentimental significance.

3rd anniversary- nothing. We had guests in town and we didn't have time to really celebrate. We did watch our wedding video and had champagne.

28 years. He got me a gorgeous hydrangea plant and made me some beautiful wind-chimes. I cooked his favorite supper and made him his favorite dessert. We have never done big gifts for each other. Just little things.

I love this. The true meaning of love, is giving something thought and creativity; handmade, if you are lucky. I know people who use anniversaries (and probably birthdays or any other holiday) as an excuse for an expensive present. Ew.
