Diverse public middle school that would make a white student comfortable?

Hardy, Deal and Stuart Hobson are the neighborhood middle schools with a diverse student body. If you move inboundary for one of these schools you are. Guaranteed a spot.

SH is not diverse.

It's almost entirely OOB.

Diverse in DC means 5 black kids, 300 Asians and 1 token Hispanic.

There aren't 300 Asian kids in all of DC.

I was being facetious. Everybody knows that the only people who go to private schools are mostly white and Asians because they have the income for that.

I know there's a lot of haters on this board, but we've been very happy with the education our kids have received. My older kids and their classmates end up at great HS (Gonzaga, Walls, Banneker, Wilson) holding their own, and excelling. For college they're at Wisconsin, Clemson, UC Boulder, UVA, Tufts, UVM, UDel, UNC and more. Sure there's a slightly rougher group of kids every year, but I do think the admins have a handle on it and my kids love the diversity and have fun with all the kids, not a problem. I think the school gets stronger every year.

Glad to see SH improving. Lots of potential. Good to see DCPS on the upswing! Deal is strong so is Hardy. Your white DC may stick out at SH and Hardy because both have a clear majority of AA students. Deal is a third white. Maybe Latin is roughly equal?

Uh... The other post was someone making fun of this post.

Haha yeah, I forgot that on DCUM "diverse" means a perfect rainbow of Black, white, asian and latino. Sorry about that. SH is definitely majority middle class African American and some middle-upper class white and latino kids. It's still a great school.

I honestly don't know why i try to give a sincere response on DCUM.

Take heart. The thoughtful OP will skim the snarky replies and read the sincere replies with care.

That was seriously the best snark you could come up with? Not worth it.

Also, OP is moving to DC with middle schoolers and is probably looking for 6th through 8th. OP should know that BASIS accepts for only one of those grades.

You'd absolutely be guaranteed a spot at Hardy because virtually all the families in its neighborhood tend to avoid it. The last published data indicated that only 13% of its students live in the school's boundary area -- Hardly a ringing vote of confidence in Hardy.

This was Deal for a long time. Trends change.
