Outdoor recess?

Teacher here,

I wouldn't suggest "forgetting" as a deterrent. I have parents who do this, and our principal requires us to still take them out. I have a little one and would be livid if it were my child, but as an employee I have to follow the rules. If you don't want your child to go out, you need to tell the teacher and the administration.

Your principal requires that you take kids out without appropriate outdoor clothing? that can't be correct. I also agree that PP should let the teachers know rather than forgetting, but I think that any school that is taking kids outside in sub-zero temperature is going to make sure that those kids have coats, hats and gloves, and likely snowpants.

For the record I am almost positive this teacher is not from Lee. My kid was not let outside when it was super cold because he did not have snow pants.

Why would you do that to your kid? I just don't understand.

Do what? Let them play outside? Why do you think? They need exercise, they enjoy it, there are lots of benefits to outdoor time. It's not like the kids are dragged out there against their will. They LOVE playing out in the snow.

Ridiculous Lee wouldn't do that. Must be a rouge teacher.

Our school too. Even if they can't go outside for the full 45 minutes, a little bit of running around in the fresh air would do everyone good.

The "rouge" teacher didn't identify her school and it would be extremely unlikely that they were a Lee teacher (she also chimed in before the school was identified). Apart from anything else they have better things to do with their time to hang out here!

can someone please explain why you would NOT want your children to go outside for recess when it is above 25-30 degrees?

No I meant why would someone intentionally send their kid to school without gear so that they were prevented from playing outside. My kids bike or walk every day... I believe kids need it in every weather. This is DC, not Antarctica.

Another Lee parent here. I send my kid to school everyday with the appropriate gear to go out. Sometimes she does and others she prefers to stay in and play freeze dance. She said her teacher asks the class who wants to go out and who wants to stay in. She complains it's not worth putting all that stuff on because they don't let them stay out long enough.
