Be sure to keep an eye on it- I had to adjust my synthroid dose several
Times during pregnancy. Also about 7 months pp my TSH went up to 100. Keep an eye on it!!! |
| Mine was 2.7, SG thought it was fine. Decided to go to endocrinologist just in case and she put me on low dose synthroid with monthly monitoring. Have previously had two early miscarriages so wanted to be proactive. SG had no issues with me being on synthroid they just want to note it on my chart. |
| This is an interesting discucssion. Just had my TSH tested as part of my infertility workup (been TTC for one year, no success) and my TSH is 2.4. RE did not indicate this is anything to be concerned about. However I also have elevated prolactin. I don't have any of the hypothyroid symptoms except a lot of fatigue. Should I see a regular endocrinologist and get on Synthroid? |
SG is not always great about thryoid testing. It would be better to start monitoring it yourself with your PCP or endo especially during your cycles. |
It wouldn't hurt to consult an endo. My TSH was measured around 3 at SG, and they weren't concerned, but after a few failed transfers I wanted to look into it. When I went to the endo, my reading was 2.17, so he didn't see a point in putting me on meds. I guess this particular endo thinks it is okay to be up to 2.5 for TTC, but others will hold the line at 2. REs seem to vary in what they think is acceptable, from 2 up to 4. I don't know anything about prolactin, sorry. |

I have a thyroid issue too. In June, I was 1.7 and when I got tested in November I was 2.7. I had other symptoms that my thyroid was acting up and had set up an appointment with my RE before I got my results back from SG.
SG was not concerned with my results. I was as it confirmed what I already felt. My RE upped my dose of synthroid. Bottom line: see a RE. There are several posts with recs for different REs in the area. |
| My tsh is usually between 3 and 4. My ob gyn and brother who is an endocrinologist have told me if I want to try to get pregnant I need to hon on say thyroid to get it under 2.5 |
| Hi All this is 13:48 here just wanted to say thanks for all the replies! it's really good of you.. spoke to my PCP and she said she will do it... it's hard to get an appointment with and endo.. |
| Yes, just to be clear, SG doesn't treat thyroid conditions, they just have a cut off above which they will tell you you need to get treated before you proceed with fertility treatments. |
|
I understand that SG don't treat thyroid, but what is their cut off?
|
2.5. Ideally TSH is maintained around 1.00 while ttc. |
thank you for reply, that's really helpful

I had a TSH of 3.1 and Shady Grove didn't flag it. I ended up changing clinic and my new RE put me on Synthroid. |
| I had undiagnosed hashi's through at least one of my pregnancies. TSH over 3 for a decade before I was diagnosed last year. Had no trouble getting pregnant, and kid is now 7. |
