| Anyone get bfp with tsh higher than 2 and Hashimoto's? |
| I have Hashimotos and my TSH used to be between 2.5 and 3. I saw 4 REs and all of them told me my TSH was normal since it was under 3. I convinced my most recent RE to prescribe synthroid to me as I myself wanted to get TSH under 2, just based on what I learned from other women. He did prescribe and I started taking the pill 1.5 months in advance of FET. My TSH went down to 1.2 before FET and I did get a BFP. I don't know how the pregnancy advances from here on as I have many other issues. |
I also wanted to add I have failed several IVF cycles prior to this. |
| Yes, I have a weird history that started off as Graves went into remission and came back during pregnacay as Hashimotos and I did get a BFP - my 2nd beta is when the RE noticed my TSH was 2.73 - I was then put on 25 mcg synthroid. I took that for the duration of pregnancy and maintained a TSH around 1. I also saw Stagnaro-Green at GW regularly. He is no longer in the area, but I heard there are a couple other endos at GW who also specialize in pregnancy. |
| OP if your TSH is above 2 now, I would get on some meds one way or another - via RE or Endocrinologist or PCP. I saw Sacks when I was put on synthroid so he doesn't fall into the camp of > 3 TSH only. I am at SG now so we'll find out soon enough what their policy is on TSH as I just got a BFP this week and I have my beta tomorrow. Do a google search on Stagnaro-Green to see his research on TSH and healthy pregnancy. |
| Does TSH level go up on getting positive and rising betas? Is it normal for TSH to be around 3.5 when hcg is around 500? |
|
Mine was down to 1.7 when I last got pregnant. It's been a battle stabilizing it, but my doc wanted it under 2 and I feel much better. Even with it at 1.7, she increased my Levothyroxine to 100mcg to keep it under control and planned to recheck monthly. (I miscarried anyway, so it's not the only consideration in my fertility "journey ".)
Do you know your antibody levels? I've read that getting them down can also be helpful. |
| TSH generally does go up with pregnancy. I'm the PP who also had Hashimoto;s and mine went up to 2.7 on my 2nd beta from a number in the 1s. Do get it checked regularly as they may need to increase meds over time. You want it in the 1s if possible. http://www.nytimes.com/ref/health/healthguide/esn-hypothyroidism-expert.html?pagewanted=all |
| Shady grove' cut off for TSH is 2.5 |
| When does SG test for TSH after a BFP? |
| I have hashimotos as well, but I am sub-clinical--if anything I am hyper. I saw an endocrinologist and went on meds at at least 4 weeks before I started my cycle. I am on a small dose, but I got my BFP! This was after a freeze all IVF cycle, a failed FET, and a cancelled FET cycle at SG. I left SG because my RE didn't think my thyroid was a problem. Once I got treated and was at another clinic who wouldn't even start a cycle until I was on meds, I had success! See an endocrinologist asap and get on meds. They make such a difference! Also, I feel so much better with meds! And my endocrinologist upped my medication once I got my bfp, wants me to see her in person, and is still testing my TSH and T4 every 4 weeks. |
That's a sign your thyroid is under stress from the pregnancy. Your dose should be bumped up and you should be getting tested monthly. You should be targeting for a tsh under 2.0 |
Thanks and makes sense. |

Hi, this is a really old post but my TSH is between 2.8 and about 4 and SG won't treat it (they say I don't need it). I have seen conflicting advise.
Was anyone at SG treated for a tsh between 2.5 and 4? |
Go to an endocrinologist and get it treated. |
