Unless you want to put it in a car. |
| When they started making $1000 strollers and parents let their insecurities get the best of them. |
| When I was looking into a stroller for my baby last year, I kept seeing the same names circulating, especially the Uppa line. I guess people do shell out hundreds for strollers, but I did not choose with one that pricey. |
| I tried every single stroller in the store. I liked the way the uppababy maneuvered, the seat options, and how the Cruz would fit in tight places. I didn't buy it because it was pricey. I actually thought the bugaboo bee manuvred pretty badly. |
| Of the people I knew with "status" strollers (Bugaboo, Uppa) nine times out of ten they were either up to their ear in credit card debt or it was a gift from Grandma and Grandpa. |
PP here. I wish my grandparents had a pot to piss in! We set aside money from each paycheck for our big baby gear purchases. I'd like to hope people don't charge up a credit card for baby purchases, but then it wouldn't be DC lol! |

the more expensive strollers also tend to be easier to maneuver and more durable. It probably doesn't matter much if you only use your stroller for the occasional walk around the mall or the zoo, but it's nice for two walking miles of commuting every day.
I'm not sure if my City Versa qualifies as a status stroller or not, but it sure is nice to push around! |
And 100% say spending $1000 on a stroller has nothing to do with status and everything to do with baby's comfort and safety. |
Um, no, sorry but that's not even remotely a status symbol sort of thing. That's pretty funny that you think your stroller is high end. |
| I have two friends with "brand name" strollers - one had a Bugaboo Bee and hated it and the other had an Uppababy Vista and that thing was massively huge and really a pain for anything other than taking walks. She ended up getting the smaller Uppababy umbrella stroller pretty quickly. |

When douchebag wives decided they wanted to blow their kids college money on looking rich by buying ga certain stroller, a certain purse, a certain this, a certain that. Flavor of the day, baby. So. Easily. Impressed. |
This, and I think also in the 1980's there just weren't as many options available to most people. When I was pregnant, my mom was telling me how in the late 70's/early 80's, at least, everyone just went to one of the small, independently owned baby stores and stocked up on what they had. None of this comparing 80 different kinds of strollers on the internet. For most people, I don't think there was much room to compete. |
|
If you can afford them I think they worth every penny. Its all about the opportunity cost that buying one of these strollers might represent for you. If barely none...
I believe it has nothing to do with status. |
At a certain level, yes (Maclaren being superior to Grapo). But once you're into Bugaboo/Uppababy territory, it is about status. People just buy them because trendy New Yorkers and Hollywood celebrities have them, they want to show off or because they think more expensive is ipso factor better. |
