Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Gore win the popular vote and Bush the outdated Electoral Vote thus making Gore the actual people's choice? Bush never should have been in office but thanks to a system set up for people living two hundred years ago far distances apart Bush won. |
| In 2000, Gore won the nationwide popular vote. Bush only won the electoral votes for Florida due to an error by the woman who developed the butterfly ballot, putting Pat Buchanan in Al Gore's designated slot. Subsequently, the U.S. Supreme Court effectively handed the election to Bush, a ruling that Sandra Day O'Connor came to strongly regret. (She voted in the majority on that decision.) |

Do those that despise Bush hate their Congressman and Senators too (assuming you know who they are...)? It's a system of checks and balances.
Why don't you research the approval rating of some of the more prominent Congressman and Senators. You will probably be surprised that Congress has a lower approval rating than the Pres. |
| I don't hate at least one of my Senators -- I actually voted for him and he changed the balance of power in the Senate. |
Apparently you are not familiar with the status of DC's representation in the House and Senate. I don't have Senators or a Congressman to hate. You are correct that Congress as a whole has a lower rating then Bush, but individual members generally have higher ratings. That's one of the reasons that incumbents are so rarely defeated. |
| Technically, Jeff, you do have a Congresswoman to hate (if you wanted to) -- Eleanor Holmes Norton represents you in the House, but her floor votes don't count, so I know what you meant by your post. |
That doesn't mean that he is intellectually capable of holding the offices that he has, which I think is what the poster was arguing. If I were to enumerate every reason I hated Bush, it would take me until the next president is sworn in (an event to which I am counting down the seconds). Here are some of my top reasons, and these aren't even political issues-- just general philosophical problems I have with him. 1. He and his administration have lied to us for years and years while claiming the moral highground. 2. He fires, puts gag orders on, or otherwise destroys anybody who opposes him. 3. He has engaged in fear-mongering to further his own political agenda. 4. He has managed to bitterly divide this country, all the while claiming that he is a "uniter, not a divider". 5. He has the intellectual capacity of an ant, but is nevertheless totally condescending to those who challenge him, even when the challengers are far more informed about an issue than he is. 6. He has propped up some of the most vicious, evil dictators on earth while claiming to be a champion of justice and human rights. |
Yes, that indeed was what I was arguing, PP. You said it much better than I could!
|
Technically, Eleanor Holmes Norton is a Delegate (the correct name for a non-voting member of the House). So, I still have no proper target of my hatred. |
My mistake. I've always heard EHN referred to as a Congressperson. |
|
PP, I understand your confusion. She even refers to herself as Congresswoman ...

Do you really feel as if he is shoving his morals and values down your throat? I certainly have never felt that way. Perhaps because I don't think he has tried to shove them down our throats. I have to also state that I find nothing wrong with values and morals. I also know that my set of values, morals and ethics, are not held by everyone else. I don't seem to recall him telling me I had to be Christian, go to his church, or believe what he believes. I personally don't like him because he seems to be under the control of Dick Chenney, who I find to be an evil man. I would like to have someone who wasn't so easily swayed by one man, to be our president. |

There are MANY reasons why I "hate" Bush as my president. But, high on my list if not no. 1 can be summed up in one word: fear-mongering.
I'm tired of him and his people using fear to accomplish their agenda. We should be afraid of everything all the time, is what I've taken from his presidency. And, frankly, I'm tired of it. |
| I have not heard one substantive reason to hate Bush at all--just hysterical rhetoric--why has he ruined the economy? Why do you think he only cares for the rich?? Oh regarding his becoming President in 2000--sorry you don't respect the system of the electoral college--it was that system that put Kennedy in office since he also didn't win the popular vote--difference there is that Nixon took it like a man and didn't boo hoo hoo like Gore. |
What reasons were not valid and who are you to have to be the one to substantiate them? Please tell me why you like Bush and what reasons you think he is a good President? I don't think people "hate" him but they have the right to not think he is a good President. Seriously, having high religious morale ground, lying, hate mongering, bad ecomomic policy and starting a war that was not necessary are valid reasons to not like him. Posters may not have written in depth as to why they do not like him but their statements are just as good as any. |
