In our house, if it tastes ok, it's still good. ![]() |
"None.I dont intend on answering your question...but while I'm here...let me give you a recipe for some dumb homemade salsa that looks gross, anyway. "
Always a bitch in the group. I am always open to new recipes and so thought OP was too. She wasn't. Fine. (BTW, everyone who has tried this salsa loves it so don't knock it till you try it bitchy poster.) |
OP here. I put jarred, specifically, because I have relatives in another country asking for American food-type stuff, and thought they'd like some salsa. I need something I can carry with me on a flight. I don't think they'd be too keen on my saying it's "American" as I prepare it in their kitchen. ![]() |
Are you the same poster who hasn't learned how to use the 'Quote' button, yet? |
Is there anything out there that tastes like the salsa at Rio? |
Maybe since they are in another country and jarred is not readily available ANYTHING would be good to them. Also, check the jars to make sure it is indeed American... |
my favorite trick is to use any jarred salsa, (favorite is the trader joes authentica) and add chopped tomatoes and cilantro....so yummy!!! |
Not jarred, but free(in a sense) Salsa Baja at Baja Fresh (the brown one that isn't hot). Buy a burrito and fill up as many of those little plastic cups as you want. |
The Arriba Fire Roasted salsa that a couple of PPs mentioned is close to the salsa at Rio Grande and Cactus Cantina and Lauriol Plaza. (I thought I heard that former Rio employees opened Cactus Cantina and Lauriol, so the recipe is probably the same.) |
Paul Newman's Tequila Lime Salsa. It has that sweet, yet tangy bite from the light and enough heat to make it a good salsa! |
PP here - from the lime (not light). |
No need for attitude OP. You could have explained that at first. I'm with the can of beans lady. The jarred salsas are mostly crap and it's relatively easy to put together your own, which tastes much better. And if it really is for taking overseas, take them the crap. They won't know. |
\ Maybe this overseas country does not have tomato, garlic, onion, cilantro and spices... or blenders! Perhaps they cannot make it. |
In which case, any jarred salsa will do. Problem solved. |
Now, if Salsa is not available they will need chips! What brands work? |
