Do you remember the duet he did with Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire? "Easy Lover". The height of his over-exposure. I admit that I like that song even though it is universally panned. I love the urban legend around "In the Air Tonight".

His Genesis colleague who formed Mike and the Mechanics didn't take off as much.

For oldsters like me, there was a serious question when Peter Gabriel left Genesis about whether the band could survive when Peter Gabriel left, and then Phil stepped out from behind the drum kit and they soared.
