| Nanny 400 per week for 3 young children. 40 hrs per week. |
Yes, Heritage. I toured St. Ann's also 3 years ago and liked it as well, but was a bit leary that their caregivers are not real teachers, they were volunteers and also teen mothers who live there. They also do not do breakfast there. At Heritage, they do breakfast and their teachers are actually trained teachers. DS1 has been there 3 years now and we both love it there. The main teachers have been there a long time (although teachers aids do come and go). Ms. Maha who is the preschool class teacher is really awesome. They have Spanish class and also Mandarin Chineese class, and one of the teachers aids has been teaching French (although it's not official - I was totally shocked when DS1 started counting his matchbox cars in French a while back). They also have Soccer Shots classes as an elective, which DS loves. The infant room caregiver who is now taking care of my infant is the same teacher who took care of DS1 and she is wonderful and loving and you can really tell she just loves babies. I can't actually think of any drawbacks other than they don't offer haircut/barber services for the kids like Beantree does
I can't find my daily schedule printout right now, but they do have outdoor play everyday, weather permitting. They have a nice gated playground and also a nice indoor gym area where they also have gym/yoga. The day is structured on a schedule. Also, during the summer they have fairs there on the grounds of St. Thomas More with bounce houses, petting zoo animals, and they even had ponies. Definitely check out all the centers in the area to see what a good fit is for you - there is also St. Ann's of course (I don't mean to disparage St. Ann's, I have friends who have used St. Ann's for multiple children and they were extremely happy with them) and also Rheema, Our Redeemer, St. Jeromes, and also nearby on Rhode Island Avenue they just opened Mindbloom, who apparently also teach Spanish and Mandarin and have piano lessons. I've heard Heritage is working on opening another center in Mount Rainier also. There is also Gateway Childcare in Mt. Rainier, but I haven't heard very good things about them. I'm more than happy to try answer any other questions you have

| NP here - we are on the wait list for Heritage and just wanted to pass on the info we got a few weeks ago re: the new locations. There will be one in Mt. Rainier (about 3-4 blocks from Rhode Island) and another in "Silver Spring" (on Randolph Road so more Wheaton). If you get on the list for them you can let them know which location(s) will work for you. Neither one is open yet though, and since we don't need care til August I didn't ask on specific dates. |
| Our center is about $400/week for an infant and $350/week for a toddler. |
The Heritage location in Hyattsville is so close to Mt. Rainier, it's wierd they would open up another location there. I guess there is a high demand for daycare in that area... |
If the new location is near Rhode Island, it's not really that close to the current location in Hyattsville. I think there's a high demand for daycare in most parts of the DC area. |
| I would presume 3000 + |
| Where in Falls Church is your day care? I'm looking for infant care in FCC or just outside but don't know where to start. |
I live on Eastern Ave, between Rhode Island Ave and Bladensburg, and Heritage is less than 2 miles away from me. Mt. Rainier isn't all that big. Just seems a little wierd, but I'm glad they are opening another location. The only center I know of in actual Mt. Rainier city limits is Gateway (which is pretty terrible) |
PP who posted the new locations here - honestly I think the number of professional families moving to northern PG county (Mt. R, Hyattsville, Riverdale, and other points north) and commute into the city is growing at such a huge pace b/c of the cost of housing in MoCo and DC, that there is a big interest in having daycare along that corridor. As PP mentioned, some of the other options aren't great - I think Heritage is capitalizing on an influx of families into those areas that want second language, music, etc. (i.e. quality programs for their kids). If you follow the PG county schools thread at all, there was a discussion a while back about the need to have charters geographically located where the interest is highest and several posters mentioned Hyattsville/Mt. Rainier/Riverdale as the key location along a major commuter route for northern PG. |
Wow, you're really underpaying your poor nanny! |
Almost that my check for us in old town |
+1. 21k a year?! |
| $1700/mo for a 3yo at a preschool and $325/week for a 1 year old at an in-home daycare. This is in Alexandria. |
+2 !!! $10/hour --before taxes!-- for three young kids? In the DCMV area???
Who on earth did you get to agree to that? An 18-year-old convicted felon with no childcare experience? |
