NP here - we are on the wait list for Heritage and just wanted to pass on the info we got a few weeks ago re: the new locations. There will be one in Mt. Rainier (about 3-4 blocks from Rhode Island) and another in "Silver Spring" (on Randolph Road so more Wheaton). If you get on the list for them you can let them know which location(s) will work for you. Neither one is open yet though, and since we don't need care til August I didn't ask on specific dates.
The Heritage location in Hyattsville is so close to Mt. Rainier, it's wierd they would open up another location there. I guess there is a high demand for daycare in that area...
If the new location is near Rhode Island, it's not really that close to the current location in Hyattsville. I think there's a high demand for daycare in most parts of the DC area.
I live on Eastern Ave, between Rhode Island Ave and Bladensburg, and Heritage is less than 2 miles away from me. Mt. Rainier isn't all that big. Just seems a little wierd, but I'm glad they are opening another location. The only center I know of in actual Mt. Rainier city limits is Gateway (which is pretty terrible)
PP who posted the new locations here - honestly I think the number of professional families moving to northern PG county (Mt. R, Hyattsville, Riverdale, and other points north) and commute into the city is growing at such a huge pace b/c of the cost of housing in MoCo and DC, that there is a big interest in having daycare along that corridor. As PP mentioned, some of the other options aren't great - I think Heritage is capitalizing on an influx of families into those areas that want second language, music, etc. (i.e. quality programs for their kids). If you follow the PG county schools thread at all, there was a discussion a while back about the need to have charters geographically located where the interest is highest and several posters mentioned Hyattsville/Mt. Rainier/Riverdale as the key location along a major commuter route for northern PG.
