Given the high rate of divorces in heterosexual unions, are you concerned about the longevity of your marriage? - not OP |
New poster here, who's never heard that. Apparently lesbians divorce more often than gay men do, but straight couples still trump them all. Anecdotal only, but all the lesbian couples I know, who have been together long-term and have a civil partnership or marriage, have continued to stay together. Maybe it's this area. Well educated, etc. People who marry later in life and who have college degrees tend to stay married. |
Please cite your source for this. --Signed a lesbian who has been with my wife for over 20 years and is raising our 2 children with her |
How do you manage the division of labor, prioritizing careers, etc? Do you feel it is easier for you than hetero couples? |
Do you have more straight friends or gay friends? When events say mommy and me or father daughter whatever - how do you and your spouse approach this? Meaning do one of you place a particular parental role that falls in line with the old fashioned definition mom/dad roles? Does it ever bother you that there is a father/daughter or father/son event that you would want to go to but may feel excluded because of the wording? How do you feel when you hear the term gay or same sex marriage would you rather marriage just be defined as marriage? Have you ever encountered negative comments because of your sexuality? |
Then what would you call it? Your unwillingness to adapt a heteronormative term displays your underlying bigotry. Oh, and that's not the universal definition of "nuclear family." Plenty of sources define it as a couple or pair of adults and their children, without reference to gender. So again, your bigotry is showing when you selectively choose the definition that excludes families with homosexual parents. |
Pure nonsense. Language evolves. Go type it into google and you get nu·cle·ar fam·i·ly noun a couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit. |
NP here: Just typed in "definition of nuclear family" in Google. This is what I got: noun a couple and their dependent children, regarded as a basic social unit. |

Yes...and what is your point? As someone in a long term lesbian relationship, I'd like to see this source for high rate of break-ups in lesbian relationships. |
PP, no one capitalizes lesbian anymore unless they're referring to someone who lives on the island of Lesbos. Give me a break. OP, I have nothing to ask you. It's 2014, I have at least four gay couples on my street, three of whom have kids, and gay and lesbian families are completely commonplace, especially in this area. Your original post seems to indicate otherwise, so I wonder if you live outside the DC area. |
