Lululemon head to toe in my neighborhood with NF jackets over it. |
These have been very trendy for a couple of years. It's a status symbol because they are more expensive than comparable coats. I actually figured the trend would've started to die out by now (or will soon). |
I do and love it - mine is not north face though, but similar style and material. Will wear it now and go do errands. |
All the drug dealers in my neighborhood wear North Face jackets . People have been shot over these coats. |
OK, I had to go look at my jacket. It's from REI, store brand. I got it because it was warm, comfortable, not to ugly, and relatively cheap. |
...not "too" ugly.
|
They are for those that can't afford a "real" warm coat -- like a long shearling. |
Maybe on students, not on moms. Too cheap. |
Cheap? North Face are pretty damn expensive. Lots of moms there this weekend with small kids wearing NF with jeans and uggs. But maybe the fuddies who live in gtown are too out of style and like their frumpies now that I think about it. |
Must have been the tourists or the bridge crowds you saw. Now if you said Hilary Radley quilted jackets in size 0 with Tory Burch boots, I would have guessed Georgetown moms. Definitely not frumpy. |
PP, I kinda agree but NF is much more expensive than a quilted HR jacket. |
I hate to say it, but North Face is for the people who want to look like outdoorsy people, but aren't really outdoor people. Of the comparable brands, NF is the cheapest (compare to Patagonia, Arcteryx, Marmot). I see the NF/Uggs combination quite a bit.
Now, if you are really upscale, you skip all of that and get a Moncler jacket. |
What does being outdoorsy mean anyway? If I'm at the playground for 30-45 minutes in the winter, doesn't that warrant an outdoorsy jacket that will keep me warm, but still comfortable enough to run around with my toddler. Or do I have to climb machu picchu in order to warrant a patagonia jacket? |
I don't see many NF jackets around, but I have to say that most NF jackets I've seen are on young (black) men. I bought NF 9 years ago, well before having my baby and it is in great condition. It's also great for travel, because it's not bulky and heavy so packs easily. |
You seem unfamiliar with North Face. It has quite a hefty price tag. |
