She has a lot of experience improving schools in other Wards/parts of the city (not limited to Ward 3) and is already working on some interesting initiatives to improve access to high quality education for more students. She has my vote.

i looked at all of the candidates and finally settled on Lilley as well

You looked into Lilley? How? Her website is blank, does not say a word about her agenda....... Of course, she is not revealing her real agenda , which is at the service of the charterization/privatization of DC public schools.

I would never vote for a person whose kids have not spent a minute of their academic life in a DC public school.

Tricia Brown has my family's vote.

Just got weird robocall supposedly from Stephanie Lilley's husband stating that she was the only Republican on the School Board ballot. Is that really true?

Already voted for Trina Braun.

She's beyond Republican. She is for the full privatization of the school system.

The private school community and instututions, as well as the charters, are backing her.

If that were true it would be a violation of DC campaign law. It's a non-partisan election and candidates are prohibited from mentioning party affiliation in their campaign materials.

Trish Braun is persona non grata in our neighborhood. As a member of the school boundary committee, Braun had no issue with telling other ward 3 families who expected to send their kids to Deal that Lesser performing Hardy was good enough for their kids. Of course Braun decided that Hardy wasn't good enough for her child and she had the ability to go private school over Hardy. Braun's campaign slogan should be "do as I say, not as I do."

You are doing misinformation, Mr Lilley or Wattenberg booster. SHE WAS NOT A BOUNDARY COMMITTEE MEMBER (see the list of members here: http://dme.dc.gov/book/student-assignment-and-school-boundaries-review-process/dc-advisory-committee-student ) .

She was an active advocate for Ward 3 in the boundary process, against the proposed changes in the boundaries and feeding patterns of all Ward 3 schools. These included also the separation of the Palisades elementary school boundaries, and an initial proposal to have Hardy feeding into Cardozo instead of Wilson. She advocated and won on these latter two causes, but she could not do much on the Deal feeding patterns as the rights of Ward 4 - alias Bowser Protectorate were regarded as "sacred" by the DME and her team.

I would have not sent my kid to Hardy 3 years ago (when Ms Braun opted for a private school for her eldest kid), when the school did not even had a stable Principal. But I sent there my 6th grader this year. Kudos to Tricia Braun's efforts and dedication. All of my Ward 3 block is voting for her.

Tricia Braun was not a boundary committee member. Mattew Frumin was the Ward 3 representative in that Committee.

Ruth Wattenberg's supporters mystified this fact in bad faith.

I can't believe that I donated to Frumin's losing council campaign.. He did not protect Ward 3's interests as the ward's rep.

Braun's website certainly trumpets her central role in the process as proof of her experience for office. Either she played a major role and bears responsibility for the result or she was completely ineffective and didn't protect the interests of all the ward's students. Braun can't have it both ways.

"She was an active participant during the recent Student Assignment and DCPS School Boundaries Review Process, conducting community meetings, attending working group meetings and meeting with parents from across the city, teachers, members of the DME’s Advisory Committee, and the Deputy Mayor for Education to advocate for her school community, for the importance of neighborhood schools, and for the review process to focus first and foremost on achieving excellence in all DCPS schools.'

He protected his ANC area, Janney land. They ended up with no boundary changes and another multi-million dollar renovation. Think that is a coincidence? Complete conflict of interest to have him on the boundary committee, but this is DC, land of conflicts of interest. Yup, I too am embarrassed that I supported his council run, fell for the soft spoken, seemingly fair minded shtick. Just a politician like the rest of them.

Wattenberg apparently won tonight. So, congratulations to her.

I wish her the best, but she represents why I consider the Board so problematic. Public school parents need a better voice in this city, but they are demeaned as "just a parent" when they get involved. There are very few current DCPS parents on the Board of Education. Instead, it is a bunch of "policy experts" who represent their professional affiliation's viewpoints and interests far better than the interests of current kids and families in DCPS. I hope she will stay connected to current parents and listen to their opinions and insights. I also hope she will go beyond Janney, Deal, and Wilson to understand the issues facing it other schools because the experience elsewhere, even in Ward 3, can be very different. And for the record, I was not a candidate or friend to any of the candidates in this race. I am just an informed and active DCPS parent who is dismayed by how education in DC is driven by national education battles instead of the reality of what is happening in our schools.

I do indeed wish her the best and hope that she looks out for all children's interests. But I too wonder if this just underscores why we needed to have mayoral control. The candidate who worked for and was backed by AFT won. During the years of school board control, the school board seem to pay more attention to teachers' interests than to children's interests. Hope those days are behind us.

In many ways Braun was the best candidate. But her duplicity over boundary changes doomed her in several precincts.

I wouldn't say duplicity. I think she's a nice, well-meaning person, but she was tainted by touting her role in the boundary process. There were many people at Eaton yesterday who simply would not consider her for that reason. I have to believe it was the same at Oyster. An overreaction? Perhaps. But think about how the Janney or Lafayette folks would react if those neighborhoods had been redistricted from Deal to Hardy.
