| I wear trouser cut when I can find them. Basically, if you are widest at your midsection/ hips by a large proportion, you want a pant leg that is going to keep the width as it falls to the floor. So boot cut or trouser cut. Flares tend to get narrow partway in the middle, so they can look bad on a pear-shape too. |
| I wear both skinny, bootcut, and flared jeans. There are still plenty of designer jeans companies making boot cut jeans: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/womens-bootcut-jeans |
| Straight jeans are the way to go if you can't wear skinnies. |
I think she/he is referring to protecting the children...as in not giving them nightmares. I know my kid would run screaming from the room if I shuffled out in a pair of skinny jeans and a chic tunic. At 5'3" and...I'm not saying how many pounds, I'd look like a kielbasa draped in a tablecloth.. Skinny jeans are for the skinny(ish). Plus, I'll stop wearing boot cuts when everyone else stops wearing those gawd awful acid washed high waisted monstrosities. |
+1 "So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, "Dear God, what is that thing?...." |
| I think most people look good in skinnies. It might just be a matter that f finding the right brand for YOU. Keep looking. |
Sorry I hope you realize that boot cut is our generation's version of Mom jeans. |

A slight boot cut is fairly timeless, just avoid any super large flares. But if you want to look more on-trend, why not try a straight cut? It's not as wide around the ankles as bootcut/flare but it's not as tight as a skinny jean.

Oh for goodness sake. The only thing that is ever PERMANENTLY out of fashion is wearing unflattering clothing. Not all trends for for all people. Skinnies are a trend that we are probably on the tail end of. The wider of a leg you go, the more you'll "stick out" in terms of not following the skinny trend, to the extent you care. A straight cut jean is timeless and classic. You won't look trendy in a straight cut jean, but you can absolutely look fashionable and classic. Go for a darker wash.
Dress however it flatters your body. |

I had a hard time with skinny jeans for a long time as they tended to be low waisted. But then I found some great high rise skinny jeans at the gap and I think they look great on me. I wear skinny and strait leg jeans and have put my bootcuts in storage for this winter.
Another thing to consider is if you wear tall boots with skinny jeans, the boots can make your silhouette very similar to a boot cut jean. I'm also a fan of the wide leg pant - like a trouser style. I agree with others who say its all about finding what suits your body and makes you comfortable. |

Great original post! Oh no wait. |
| I keep seeing the term "on trend". Is that the new on trend way to say "fashionable" or "in style" |
| Boot cut jeans will never go completely out of style. They are classic. Most of the expensive jean companies (Seven for All Mankind, AG, J Brand, etc.) have gone to a "skinny boot" instead of the wider leg this season. It's always better to look good in something that flatters you than bad in this season's trend. |
