It doesn't really matter. Its like soccer or basketball.... Some parents sign their kids up for all kinds of sports through outside rec leagues and camps/clinics as early as 4 and 5 years old. Indeed, kids who play lacrosse outside of school can choose from a multitude of programs, one of which is Madlax, by taking "scooper" clinics at really young ages. But a school team doesn't preclude the more advanced player or a newbie. School teams are for both kids who already play in a rec or travel league as well as kids who are new to the sport. This is across the board from soccer to basketball and lacrosse. Few kids refrain from playing on their school team, which is an extension of the school day, just because they play on outside teams. In fact, the best players on school teams often get asked who they play for "typically" as one can tell when a kid has been playing already for several years. Still, kids new to a sport often pick it up quickly and can really shine in the comfortable atmosphere of their schoolmates and familiar environs. Having team sports for younger kids in privates schools is a win-win for most kids. All the CAC privates have soccer, track and basketball teams, starting in 5th grade and you can easily see the range of experience amongst the kids. Lacrosse seems a natural addition is all, especially at a larger school like Langley that is also located in the lax hotbed of McLean.

| How many players do you need for a LAX team? |
Is that due to the new head and her policies? |
Same as soccer |
| to 15:55 poster: Every very active, type A boy we know has left Langley over the last several years, either being asked to leave or choosing to leave. I believe the parents tend to become tired of the school's low tolerance for what most would consider typical boy behavior. |
| 17:31. Curious as to which grade you are speaking. There are a lot of "active" boys in DS's grade and some have been an issue. I don't see any of them leaving. |
| 19:20... My reference grades are the 7th and 8th grades. |
No, mom. There are 11 players on the field for a soccer team. There are 10 players on the field for a lacrosse team. Don't pretend like you know anything about lacrosse. |
Aren't a lot of kids leaving then anyway, trying to get into HS early? I think all the K-8s have that to some extent or another. |
| Langley's lacrosse team last spring was awful. But there even worse teams in that league, teams with kids who had never picked up a stick before. It's a terrible athletic conference overall. |
Thanks so much for your kind words about our 11-13 yr olds! And, for the additional insight into the other schools as well. Mother of the year goes to you. DS isn't particularly athletic and I'm looking forward to him having the opportunity to play multiple sports @ Langley. Perhaps lacrosse was abysmal but they've done very well in other sports. K-8s aren't going to be known for athletics, though just having the multiple offerings is more than enough for me. Other K-8s in the area like Nysmith and Green Hedges offer nothing. |
Oh for god's sake, I didn't mean the same number on the field. The poster asked how many players you need for a lax team, not a game. In order to have subs, and enough players to cover absences, for a TEAM, you need at least 14-20 players for a soccer or a lacrosse team. So, yeah, you need the same number of kids as you do for soccer, albeit perhaps a few more for lax due to switching in and out of middies and a possible (boys) FOGO, than a soccer team. One of my kid plays both at an elite level and the soccer team has 16 players and lacrosse team has 18. You don't have to be so technical. This isn't an article for Lax magazine. You sound like the same a$$ who makes disparaging remarks on all of the lax threads to "moms who know nothing about lax." Go crawl back under your rock you cretin. |
Hey PP, I am willing to bet it was not a mom who wrote this. Bet it was the same cretin who posts nasty remarks on all the lax threads. |
| why is everyone so hating on lacrosse? Thank god I don't know anything about sports so my feelings don't need to be hurt. |
| Maybe this is why Langley doesn't have LAX? |
