There are many kids involved in Madlax program. From what I hear, and our family is not so sporty, the programs like Madlax attract more kids than any of the various school programs.
It doesn't really matter. Its like soccer or basketball.... Some parents sign their kids up for all kinds of sports through outside rec leagues and camps/clinics as early as 4 and 5 years old. Indeed, kids who play lacrosse outside of school can choose from a multitude of programs, one of which is Madlax, by taking "scooper" clinics at really young ages. But a school team doesn't preclude the more advanced player or a newbie. School teams are for both kids who already play in a rec or travel league as well as kids who are new to the sport. This is across the board from soccer to basketball and lacrosse. Few kids refrain from playing on their school team, which is an extension of the school day, just because they play on outside teams. In fact, the best players on school teams often get asked who they play for "typically" as one can tell when a kid has been playing already for several years. Still, kids new to a sport often pick it up quickly and can really shine in the comfortable atmosphere of their schoolmates and familiar environs. Having team sports for younger kids in privates schools is a win-win for most kids. All the CAC privates have soccer, track and basketball teams, starting in 5th grade and you can easily see the range of experience amongst the kids. Lacrosse seems a natural addition is all, especially at a larger school like Langley that is also located in the lax hotbed of McLean.
