Sometime but it is not always practical. Maybe leftovers at 4 or a snack, dinner at 6-7, ice cream and an ensure.

Cereal is a good solution, or soup or a sandwich.

Growth spurt. Fill him with tons of nutritious foods and cut back on all junk for this duration. Make sure you are giving a good multi-vitamin to him as well.

There was nowhere near enough fat or protein in that diet. Perhaps you should rethink the mix?

Put peanut butter on the bagel and the banana.

I hope it was at least brown rice with the curry.

This is a typical day of meal for my 10yo

Waking up (7:15 am) - Milk (probably 12 oz)
Breakfast (8:oo) Toast, cream-cheese, egg
School snack break - cheese stick
School lunch - 1 sandwich, juice.
After school (around 4 pm)- 1 full meal (starch, protein, veggie)
Dinner (7) - starch, veggi, protein, fruit (2 serving)
After dinner (9) - a glass of milk.

I do not keep cola, chips, cookies at home. Except for 1 box of fruit juice, by and large ,y kid's meals do not have much junk food. My DH does a better job of getting them to eat veggies, fruits and protein. He is really careful about what they eat.

Yes, more protein and healthy fats, and fiber too. Fiber and healthy fats increase satiety.

Sounds like an awfully skimpy dinner for a boy. Grill him a steak or a huge hamburger. No wonder that he is hungry.

We eat 4 meals because the snacking after school was driving me crazy. They would snack, not eat enough at dinner and snack again. So now they eat breakfast, lunch at school (between 11:30-12) lunch#2 after school and dinner at 7pm - with the whole family. It has cut down on the snacking and crankiness tremendously.

I love red meat as much as the next person (OK, probably more), but there are a lot of ways to get more protein into a kid, and they don't have to be animal flesh.

Yogurt, nuts, tofu (I would marinate and grill it), cheese, eggs, beans . . .

OP here - thanks for all the great suggestions on adding more protein to his diet. i felt like crap last night before he went to bed when he asked me to make a big breakfast the next morning because he's hungry. what kind of parent let their kid go to sleep on an empty stomach!

we had pork chops and grilled salmon for dinner last night but i guess we need to up to portion size a bit. he has nuts allergy so those are out. he's also kind of a picky eater and doesn't like fat very much (even egg yolk). but he loves meat and dairy.

Don't feel bad, OP. Does he like healthy fats such as avocado, olives and olive oil, salmon and tuna and similar fish, seeds and coconut oil? Healthy fats also increase satiety and they're essential for the brain.

As a child I was not aloud to eat after 7 pm. It wasn't an issue until high school when I had a job after school from 4:00-9:00pm. I would come home starving as I hadn't eaten since noon at school. I was only given $3 a day for lunch so I bought a bean burrito and soda everyday. I was somewhat anorexic back then but not by choice. I didn't have time or money for food. And my family was not poor it's not like we didn't have food in the house I just couldn't eat it after 7pm
