Where is $44 a month with a pool? The Washington Sports Club in Tenley is $79 a month.

$70 at Sport and Health for one club with a discount. I've previously paid $89 at the same club. Priced a nearby YMCA years ago, and it was $79/month.

I paid $75 for one year, as well as $150 for one year. Both amazing gyms in the DC area. I will pay a lot of money for a good gym.

Wow - I think I'm paying too much!

I go to OTF where it's just classes. You get 8 a month and I'm paying $80 a month for for those 8 classes. (and that price was a special deal). This is in the burbs.

In NYC I had a discounted rate at Equinox for 80/mo and thought that was cheap.

I belong to OTF also and have a hard time with the monthly cost, and i pay more than you do. The workout is unique and challenging enough that I know i couldn't replicate it on my own so I haven't canceled yet.

I go to the same chain. My DH and I call it Average Joe's Gym.

Not sure which location you go to but the one where I go used to be a Golds Gym. Having been a member of a couple of other gyms which were a lot more expensive and offered more amenities, I found that I basically used just cardio and weights.

I get these at my $10 a month gym and it is in a clean, well lit, spacious environment with lots of machines available. Could not ask for more. I know they have some classes but am not interested in them.

When I first joined this gym - shortly after it opened - I was not sure how long they would last at this sort of pricing.

I talked to a couple of people in the know and their business model is interesting.

They make a fair amount of money from the percentage that they get to keep from personal trainers who work at the gym. But the other aspect is that over two-thirds of their membership hardly ever uses the gym but they keep paying the $10 because it is an inconsequential amount. They also charge $29 annually which is a fee that is paid to ensure the member gets to keep the $10 rate as long as they are a member.

The number of cancellations of membership is minimal because the fee is so low and members would just like to keep the option open to use the gym even if they don't do so with any regularity.
