Please explain skinny jeans to me

Anonymous
OP, try the "curvy skinny" from New York & Co. I am your height and probably similar size. I wear size 6.

I'm a size 6 tall with no hips and have found long length skinny jeans and even those feel really tight around the calf. Are there certain kinds of denim I should be looking for or am I out of the norm and they just don't work with my body type?

I find them to be flattering on about 3% of people of wear them. I am not one of them.

Ditto. I am petite and not overweight but I don't like the way they look on me. I can think of one person they look good on. There is a fairly tall just finished college teacher at my son who is stick thin and they look great on her. The vast majority of people who wear them should not wear them.

Fat people excuses.

i think skinny jeans look good on most people, actually. they give a leaner look, suit women with curves as well as those who don't have them. i dread the day they start looking as dated as bootlegs.

i'm a broken record on this front (not that you'd know, since i post as anonymous), but try uniqlo. cheap as hell, super comfortable and flattering (i think). we don't have an in-person uniqlo here, so if you're not heading to nyc (or tokyo) soon, just order online and see if those don't do the trick.

I also don't have much junk in the trunk so they could also help enhance what I'm lacking in that department as well. I guess I'll just try on a whole bunch of different sizes and brands (better quality than the Old Navy that I've been trying) until I find one that works!

OP I have a similar body type and wear DL1961 skinnies. They have four way stretch and are super comfy. I've even got a pair of them in maternity.

Got the Rock Star jeans/pants from Old Navy and was really surprised with how comfy and flattering they are! Give them a try.

+! I think that boot cut look pretty bad on everything except the 5'10" and over crowd. And seems country to me also.

They can look flattering on most people, it's just a matter of finding the right brand for your body type.

I'm pear-shaped, and bootcut make me look short and dumpy. I don't wear heels, so I need jeans I can wear with flat shoes; skinny jeans make me look much neater and more put-together. When they first came out, I was like many other of the posters, talking about how ridiculous and unflattering they were. But, of course, I hadn't tried them on. When I did, I realized how much better I looked in them than in bootcut jeans.

I've had some luck with Gap always skinning and legging jeans. I really like Madewell skinny skinny.

I keep wanting to like the Madewell skinny jeans, but every time I order them there's just something a little off - usually too baggy one place, too tight another. Maybe I'll try again this year. I just ordered these:
http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=941271002&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdReferer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gap.com%2Fproducts%2Fhigh-rise-jeans.jsp

Hoping they're good - though I'm not reassured by the reviews...

Try AEO long skinny jeans.

Hi, OP. I think you just need to keep looking around for the right fit. Last year, all I had were *gasp* bootcut jeans and knew I needed to update my look, but thought skinny jeans would just look horrible on me. I'm 5'8 and a size 8 (I have curves but I look slender). I tried on a hundred pairs that made me feel like a stuffed sausage, but found a pair that was perfect at Ann Taylor, which was pretty surprising. Don't settle for a pair that doesn't make you feel comfortable and attractive.

If you don't have a thigh gap don't bother.

i felt the same way and just found a pair that feel comfy. Lucky jeans. Lolita skinny. I'm 5'9" and the 32 inch inseam was perfect.

If you have a thigh gap, skinny jeans are not for you, because they'll just emphasize the toothpick-ness, chicken-leg-like-ness of your legs. I'm not hating on those with thigh gaps, but skinny jeans are not flattering on very skinny legs. They're most attractive on athletic legs, I think.
