Please explain skinny jeans to me

Anonymous
I love the way they look and find them flattering, but every pair that I try on feel so constricting like they are cutting off my blood supply. I'm a size 6 tall with no hips and have found long length skinny jeans and even those feel really tight around the calf. Are there certain kinds of denim I should be looking for or am I out of the norm and they just don't work with my body type?

I've had the same problem with the versions at Gap, JCrew, etc. I had to spend big bucks on AG jeans last year to find a pair that fit well. But I figured its better to have one well fitting pair than multiple cheaper uncomfortable pairs.

Skinny jeans are supposed to be snug, but not suffocating. Maybe try going up a size

If they don't work for your body type, that says a lot. Very few people should wear these.

I find them to be flattering on about 3% of people of wear them. I am not one of them.

OP Shop around and go up a size or two. There is a pair of skinny jeans for every body type that falls into a norm -- including size 18W. It might get expensive, but maybe not. I had the same problem with NYMJ (I am older) but I went up a size and found some that fit me perfectly -- and I have NO tolerance for squeezing. If the fit is not right, you will find they bag and look bad. But there are jeans made for every woman's body type, so keep looking. As far as why wear them in the first place -- my legs are my best feature. It really helps to know what kind of body you have -- slim, apple, curvy, long etc. GL.

I think they are here to stay for a woman with great legs.

Look towards buying one pair for $100, not 6 pairs for $30.

I feel like "skinny jeans" are a big joke by the fashion industry since the majority of people who wear them look fat. Even skinny people!

OP here. Thanks for all the tips. I'm 5'-11" with no hips and long slender legs so in theory skinny jeans should look good on me. I also don't have much junk in the trunk so they could also help enhance what I'm lacking in that department as well. I guess I'll just try on a whole bunch of different sizes and brands (better quality than the Old Navy that I've been trying) until I find one that works!

My explanation: A lot of women don't mind looking hideous, so they buy them anyway, thus making the huge profit margins for the brands made in third world countries.

imho, skinny jeans don't flatter skinny/lean legs. They look best on women who have a bit more muscle definition (calves, hamstrings), and flatter the curves brought on by exercise.

OP Have you tried Hollister long? Super skinny? I know they are for kids but my DD wears them and she is larger than you are. I say this b/c you say no hips.

Personally, I like skinny jeans that have a lot of spandex in them, because they feel like leggings with the convenience of pockets. I like to ride my bike places, and I'm not always worrying about rolling up one pant leg to not get it caught in the gears.
