+1. I got into an accident in HS and my parents fronted the repair cost for the other vehicle and I paid them back weekly. I'd do the same today. |
| Thanks guys i am not a teen i was typing while with the adjuster and my phone keeps freezing. I needed some quick advice so i do apologize. However i appreciate the comments and will have her pay. Funny i have not had an accident so this is a first for me in dealing with this. I will also look into her getting her own car insurance. Must she be the owner of vehicle to get her own insurance or can i still own my car she is driving? |
| You need to title it in her name. |
| I have given my kids one free accident and one free ticket. After that they pay. (Generosity is based on genuine shock at my first accident. Parked a car, forgot to put on the parking break and it ran into the church I was just about to attend services at.) |
| I love you guys.lol. |
Same. One freebie. Then you take responsibility. Tough love will get her to pay more attention and be more careful. |
| It depends. Is she home for the summer using her car to get to her job? If so, I would probably not make her pay but would make her figure out public transportation or take her to work when it is convenient for me (even if she is there an hour early). She could not use the car for fun and maybe not even for work. Is she living with you and working a full-time job, not going to school? I would come up with a payment plan. |
+1 $1500 could be most of her income for the summer |
| My parents had told me for years I had to put 1/3rd of my earnings into savings. I never did, and so when I got into an accident, they said "go get the money from savings." That was a very bad conversation but they made me pay big time and I learned a LOT from that lesson. |

One free accident? What have we come to... treating adults like babies.
Does she also get one free DUI? One free texting and crashing? Poor wittle girl, can't possibly have consequences for her actions. Mommy and daddy will make everything okay. |
| She works at a fast food place part time. She would pay 500.00 for the damage and i figured on a payment plan. She will go to college in the fall and stay home. |
| This is an issue which you, op, should decide based on how you feel. There's not a right answer or a wrong answer. |

My 19 yr old son had an at - fault accident in our car while he was on our insurance. We fronted the $1,000 deductible and he paid us back over the course of 6 months. He is an adult and made a poor decision while driving so yes, he needed to face the consequences.

That was our rule with our Au Pairs. |
Same here. All except one had an accident in the first two or three weeks as they were unfamiliar with our roadways and driver behavior. WE did spend several days driving with them when they first arrived. |
