OP, if you're unsure, usually the person doing your nails will recommend a shade. It's so common a choice that they'll usually have a nice pale pink right at their workstation already, so you don't have to deal with picking one from the wall of polish.

+1 on Essie Ballet Slippers, Mademoiselle, or other pink that suits your skin tone. Essie actually sells a sampler 4-pack that is perfect for you so you can try a few. OPI Bubble Bath used to be gorgeous but they reformulated the color and kept the name even though it's way yellower now. So unless you have yellow undertones I'd steer clear.

I like Essie limoscene.

Some manicurists will recommend layering two different sheer colors to create the perfect shade (eg, limoscene and ballet slippers).

These are great Essie Neutrals. I also like Essie's "High Maintenance" and "Room with a View"

I usually just get 1-2 coats of one of the above colors, depending on my mood. For my toes I do something more colorful. Bright for spring/summer, richer for autumn/winter.

I'm not going to quite THIS far with equating pale polish with old lady nails, I do think a *bit* of color is a good thing (and can be understated). Depending o your skin tone, I don't see any reason ot to wear bolder neutrals, like these (posting for color - NO idea about the quality/price of the brands!)
