Virginia (out of state) vs. Wake Forest

OMG, those scary ROVA kids. Why on earth would someone raise their child in ROVA?

People north of maryland view VA as a state in whole. When "nova" has shit like 'jefferson davis highway', it isn't all that different from 'rova' as much as it claims to be

Yup it is similar. And thankfully both nova and rova don't have the supercilious Maryland attitude that you have

But when it comes to applying to the awesome Va state universities, we all know that NOVA and ROVA are worlds apart.

Unless this is ED, no need to ruminate one vs the other. Apply to both, see if the applicant has the luxury of choice.

If you think Arlington "isn't all that different from" from Richmond, Norfolk or Roanoke you are fooling yourself. There is a a gradual transition so that parts of Fairfax county aren't all that different from Fredericksburg, but NOVA is distinct.

I see people tote hand guns like the wild west in arlington - just like in "rova".

I'm just saying how people from PA and points north see VA - as one big state without such clear distinction. You might think there is, but you are more Virginian than anything else.

I have lived in Richmond (including college at U of R), Virginia Beach, Roanoke and Alexandria. It is absolutely right about ROVA and NOVA.

UVA has a better reputation.

In the DMV, but they have the same ranking nationally. UVA is revered in this area, but the range of UVA's reputation is far less than many here imagine.

You are silly.

UVA is much stronger than Wake in NYC, Boston, SF, Seattle. Top firms recruit more at McIntire than WF.

The national ranking is complete crap.

I would love to see a ranking done by FT or WSJ that ranks schools by placement in Bulge Bracket IB's, Buyside Finance, Google, MSFT, Facebook, Apple, Palantir, MBB-Consulting, CIA DI/NCS, State FSO, marketing at Ogilvy/WPP, etc. I.E. jobs at firms that UG's really want.

WSJ did a ranking based on 'feeder' schools to top grad programs in law and medicine:

This is much more valuable than silly USNEWS.

Yes, such a surprise that grads of schools in warm sunny climates don't "feed" into grad schools of the Northeast.

These schools rank ahead of UVA?

University of Philadelphia (? - yep, that's what this through report says)
Haverford College
Morehouse College
New College of Florida

Listen, every publication wants to get into the rankings game. US News is the one that colleges care about. Wake Forest and UVA are very comparable.

Both are too Greek

Go to Duke instead.

Horrible at math, computer science, chemistry, physics and engineering.

You know.... The hard stuff.

Ha. This has to be the shameless "Nowhere on earth is better than umd" dude.

Speaking as someone with a degree in the "hard stuff" - I feel that I go an excellent education - had no problem getting a job and felt very well prepared for my technical career - which I still do 20 years later. Seriously???
