Doesn't sound like OP's boss did that though. She was asked to sign a reprimand for violating a policy (notify if you will be late).

Did you talk this over with your partner beforehand? Can you claim temporary insanity and beg for your job back?

I'dbe having a panic attack if I were you unless you're independently wealthy and/or DH is so p*ssy-whipped he doesn't care about you making extreme financial decisions for the family.
That's enough to tell us you are so insecure and crazy.....OP.please don't even consider these kind of people's advice.move forward.

OP,
Why didn't you call when you were late? Not following!

Can you call your boss and talk to him or her about getting your job back? Can you call and talk to someone from HR?

It maybe time to dust off your resume, regroup and focus on getting a new job a.s.a.p. You need to as family and friends for emotional support right now. Good luck.

I am OP-thanks for your response.I am scared but ready to dust off my resume and move on.There was so much going on and I sensed that if I didn't resign then it was only a matter of time before I would get fired.

I emailed boss the night before but got no response.

People who have panic attacks are insecure and crazy, but resigning rather than signing a letter of reprimand is sane.

If it required verbal notification why would you think this qualifies?

How did you know the night before that you would be late in the morning? Doesn't sound like an unforeseeable emergency.

+100 YES This OP should have been given a chance to respond without signing.

PP here. My husband used to work at the VA downtown not that long ago. Many skills that are used in that office are easily cross transferred. You should be able to use your skills to find a higher pay grade or something in the civilian sector. I would learn from this experience and it probably does look bette that you quit over getting fired.

OP check out The Law on Constructive and wrongful Termination- before you start crying...... just saying.

Title says in VA, as in Virginia, not at the VA, as in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

I think there is Virginia/Veterans Affairs confusion here.
