You're a little dim.

Or intentionally obtuse.

Why is your sister getting married on such short notice?

OP- walk for an hour each day. Lift weights. Eat veggies, healthy fats and protein- lots of fiber, low carbs, no refine goods or starches. Drink lots of water! No alcohol.

Who has fittings and tastings when the bride just decided to get married 2 months from now. Looks like off the rack and whatever is on the menu will have to do.

Shuddering at the thought

South Beach or Atkins. You will lose weight fast and the rules are pretty simple. No carbs. Not sustainable forever for most people but for 8 weeks it is doable. The first few days suck but after that it is easy. Lots of salads and protein. Good luck!

Seriously. A family wedding possibly means she will be in thousands of photos, seeing family and friends she hasn't seen in a long time, and possibly wearing a bridesmaid dress that might already be unflattering.

You really have never had a friend or read a book where someone is trying to get in shape for a wedding, reunion or other major social function? I don't follow.

NP. I see your point, even though my first reaction was more like the quoted poster. Having been in this situation and having the same concerns (as OP), I would just advise OP not to get too wrapped up in how she looks. First, it's her sister's event. Keep the focus on her and don't make it about yourself even in your own head. If you can let go of any self-consciousness, you'll really just enjoy the love, fun and company of family and friends on this happy occasion.

What kind of ridiculous question is that?

I have the same reaction. What's the point of yo-yo dieting just to look good for one day and one set of pictures? It's not like no one is going to fail to notice when you regain the weight, especially if you ever post pictures on social media. (And if you never post your pic, or you're one of those women who only puts photos of her kids on the family holiday card, everyone is going to know the reason.)

Ignore the people here who want you to stay flabby and out of shape just like them (or they are naturally blessed and stay thin and in shape without any amount of effort, therefore have no opinion that matters).

I have 10 vanity pounds to lose and I want them OFF by July one. I was sooo resistant to Paleo eating, but was at my wits ends trying to defy my metabolism with weight watcher and MFP and the such. I gave in and started Paleo on Monday and HOLY SHIT. I have already dropped 3lbs, same with my DH and mind you I'm not even "overweight" to begin with.

In 4 short days the difference in my stomach is starling. I had no idea I was so bloated, until these last 4 days my stomach came down so much. Every morning I have stepped on the scale and had to do it twice to make sure it is not wrong.

I count NO calories. I eat as much as I want within the foods that I'm allowing myself to eat. My DH is on the plan as well and his results are more dramatic than mine because he has more to lose.

I do already exercise 6 days a week, so all I'm trying to accomplish is getting rid of the layer of fat sitting on my muscles.

The best thing? I'm not starving myself and I'm eating really really healthy. I'm eating a mountain of veggies each day. I'm most definitely a convert. Oddly, I don't miss the sweets, it is the cheese that I really miss. Once I hit my goals, I'm going to incorporate slowly adding in "banned" foods ever few weeks and weigh myself daily to try to see what it is that really packs on the pounds and revs up my appetite.

17 day diet. I lost 15 lbs in the first 17 days. It is very similar to South Beach, but does allow fruit during the first phase. I lost the first 15 lbs even though I cheated a bit, because I was overeating so much beforehand.

I do paleo but also count calories, since I eat out of boredom way too much.

Forget exercise and go for the South Beach diet!

I know that sounds crazy, but I just had this conversation yesterday with my doctor who focuses on weight loss and obesity issues. Exercise does not have a huge impact on the initial weight loss. It actually often backfires because it makes you much hungrier. But exercise is VERY important for maintaining. So, SB now and exercise after the wedding.

Good luck!

+1 Everyone I know who did Whole 30 lost at least 15 pounds! (Men and women)

If you want toned arms do the hundred push-up challenge: http://hundredpushups.com/. I'm a natural string bean and never exercise, so I have no muscle definition. I wanted to look nice in my strapless wedding dress and did this before my own wedding. It only takes a few minutes a day. Bonus was that I've never been so strong -- it really helped with the apartment move a couple of months later!
