You really don't taste it. The problem for me is that when I use a lot of spinach or kale plus red berries, the smoothie comes out looking kind of greenish-pinkish-beige, like vomit. Using blackberries instead of red berries takes care of this, producing a delicious-looking purple drink. |
I like this one as well, but don't find it necessary to add sugar. I throw in a frozen banana, milk, almond butter, cocoa powder, vanilla protein powder, and top it off with some water if it is too thick. |
I have always been equally intrigued/grossed out by the idea of adding avocado to smoothies, even though I love avocado. It just seems like it would be gross in a drink. Can you taste it in the smoothie? |
I love avocado too and would never waste them in a smoothie! Spinach is great to throw in because you get the nutrients and you can't taste it. |

Not the PP but I seek protein powder that is as close to pure whey protein isolate as possible, unadulterated by as few additives and chemicals as possible. I don't need flavor in my protein powder; I get it from what I blend with it. This is what I use:

10:01: I LOVE avocado in smoothies! here's one where you can recognize it in the smoothie:
-handful of spinach -half banana (frozen is great) -2 oz avocado (about half a medium one) -cinnamon -scoop unflavored protein powder -1 cup liquid, like coconut milk, water, or a mix of the two. Delicious! And I taste both the avocado and banana - and the cinnamon is great. |
| LOVE peanut butter, cocoa powder (unsweetened), frozen banana and your choice of milk. You could even throw some coconut in there. |

I just bought a vitamix, been making green smoothies like many people here have suggested.
For a meal substitute smoothie, when I have a sweet tooth, I've done: coconut milk or regular milk, banana, a couple of dates, and a big spoonful of cacao powder. blend with ice. For extra protein/fat, you could add a nut butter. |
I use Vega One: it's dairy, gluten, & soy free. 15g of protein per scoop. If you use the natural flavor, you can't taste it. |
| Also, a smoothie of sorts for a summer dinner: gazpacho! Going from memory here, but: Tomatoes, cucumber, onion, green pepper, white wine vinegar, garlic, ice cubes. Whizz in blender. |
| i use homemade greek yogurt, a banana, and choose a frozen fruit. Usually mango, pineapple, strawberry or mixed berry. Trader Joes has good prices on frozen fruit and it's almost the only thing I buy there. If it's too thick, I will add a little milk. |

Always use plain Greek yogurt. (Much more protein, and much less sugar than anything else. Wegmans brand is my favorite because it's not sour, but really any will work if you add enough bananas.) Frozen bananas (we buy in bulk at BJs and freeze when very ripe) Frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, mixed tropical fruit etc.) Coconut milk Ground flax seed (lots!) The exact proportions don't matter. Each batch tastes a bit different, but they're all great. I tend to make smoothies in bulk -- save the leftovers in the fridge or freezer. |
